We're serving fruit salad at M's party on Saturday. I'm going to Costco after work today so need some ideas for fruits to put in the salad! Would prefer not to buy more than 5-6 different types of fruit. What's in your ideal fruit salad?
ETA: The theme is strawberries, so there will definitely be those in it!

My perfect fruit salad (with no $ issues): Watermelon, blueberries, Nectarine (or Peaches), grapes, honeydew and cherries. Oh, add some mint to it. Yum!
If I had to make an affordable fruit salad: Watermelon, honeydew, apples, grapes and maybe peaches, if it was on sale.

My mom puts vanilla pudding mix in it, but I'm sure that's not what you're looking for 
I really like strawberries, grapes, pineapple, and watermelon. I always skip apples since they turn brown.

I pretty much love all fruit. Nice juicy peaches are a treat this time of year.
Also, I usually sprinkle shredded coconut and lime juice on top of fruit salad and it gets lots of compliments from guests!

@lawbee11: love mangoes if they are ripe! they are expensive by us though, so I would never think to put them in a large fruit salad

I like a lot of "good" fruit in it; not just cheap old melon. I don't like melon though, so my opinion is biased - - but I hate it when you order fruit salad and it has like 1 blueberry and 2 slices of strawberry and a capload of melon!
I love blackberries and raspberries in fruit salad.

Or if you want other fruits and not just berries, watermelon, pineapple, honey dew and/or cantaloupe. I don't like anything that gets brown or too slimy like apples or kiwi.

Can you just buy those big bowls of fruit salad they sell and doctor it up with more strawberries and blueberries?
If I'm going from scratch, I like pineapple, ripe cantaloupe, blueberries, strawberries, and kiwis. Most color for your buck.

I like to hit up the farmers market and get whatever is in season. If I'm trying to go cheaper though, my trick is to dress up my fruit salad with some lime juice and chopped up mint leaves mixed in.
