I did not grow up on the Americanized version of Santa and do not intend to do it with my kids. But now that I'm pregnant I am realizing what a huge part of the holiday culture for kids. We were invited to go to a sit down Santa breakfast with my SIL, BIL and nephew yesterday, she is also expecting and mentioned she would like to make the breakfast a yearly tradition. Also Elf on a Shelf is blowing up my IG.
My parents lived all over the world before they had kids and I spent my younger years living in Germany. They have holiday markets there, and it is very festive, just much different than here. We did St. Nicholas Day and some of my fondest Christmas memories were shopping for stocking goodies with my Mom for our family. They brought a lot of European and worldwide tradations home. Occasionally we got gifts from 'Santa' butI never remember Santa being real. But Christmas was a happy time in my home and I did not miss out on anything.
How was Santa presented in your home? Bells outside the window? Evidence of eaten cookies? How old were you when you found out it was not real? Were you upset with your parents?
Considering how you were raised what do you/will you do with your kids? Elf on A Shelf? Treat Santa like another character like Mickey Mouse? Stockings? Gifts from Santa?
