LO is 12 months and we've always just put food on his tray for him to eat. The few times I've tried to put it on a plate, he immediately picks it up and throws the plate and its contents on the floor.

D is 15 months and we are starting to introduce a plate. He does pretty well with it at first, but eventually just starts pushing the plate around on his tray and I have to take it away before it ends up on the floor. I look at it as baby steps, ha ha.

We're just working on this at 18 months. She's hasn't dumped it recently so I guess that's progress!

12 months. You can try one of those suction plates to teach him that plates stay on the table. I believe Boon makes one. http://www.amazon.com/Boon-Catch-Spill-Catcher-Orange/dp/B00508MVAO

Around 10 or 11 months, we started using bowls/plates. We started with the ones that have a suction cup on the bottom. But that often just makes them more determined to yank it up and throw it. At 15 months, if they've eaten enough and start getting bored, they'll still try to chuck their plate. But if they're hungry and focused on eating, they leave it alone.

around a year. now, at 15 months, he'll eat the first few bites out of the plate but then turn it over and dump everything onto the tray. i don't try to fight it at this point.

Within the last month, so starting somewhere around 14 months. It was just a plain plastic plate, and she never even tried to pick it up and throw it. Every once in a while I have to remind her to leave it on the tray, but she hasn't given me any trouble about it.

We started at 11m with unbreakable small slats. The trick for us is to take his plate away as soon as he is done eating (full). Only once he has time to think what else he could do with it will he start playing with it.

From the beginning. Always served food on a plate because the high chair wasn't in the kitchen at the time.

We introduced it around 14 months? Now at 18 months I try to always put his food on a plate.

10 months. She is back to throwing it on the floor half the time. Sometimes she listens when we say no.
