I keep inviting friends who seem up for it. When DD1 gets older, she can decide who she wants to invite! I'm of the more is more category.

Another perspective: We haven't thrown big birthday parties (just family), so we have never reciprocated with an invitation to a birthday party. However, I make sure that we go if we say we will and we also make sure to invite the friend to do other things, usually one-on-one stuff, just not birthday parties.

What I'm saying is maybe be careful with the "they never invite us to their LO's party" line of reasoning. That's not necessarily a slight. I think the context is important. But, if someone doesn't say yes often, has big parties and doesn't invite you, and doesn't seem interested in hanging out with you generally, I think it's okay to not invite them.
