Just curious.
DS2 is 8 months old and has always been hard to burp. Until the last few weeks if you didn’t get a burp out of him he would for sure spit up. This is not happening so much now. I continue to try and burp him but don’t work at it so long if nothing comes out.

much earlier, like about 4-ish months for both babies (and #2 has reflux! but she just stopped needing it/producing a burp around then.)

I think I stopped around 4 months? Maybe earlier? But my kids were pretty good at burping on their own and we didn't have any spit up issues.

I think we stopped when they started eating more solid foods, so between 6-8 months.

I don’t remember with LO1, but around 3 months with LO2, I figured out she just needed one good pat on the back and was done. I can’t remember when I stopped completely though.

Huh I actually don't really remember. Neither of my girls are big spitter uppers so I probably stopped by 3-4 months...

I never really burped my kids and there was an article out recently about how it's not really necessary.

Around 6 months or so with my first. Around 11 months with my second because if I didn’t it resulted in a mass puke incident after breastfeeding. But a burp made it safe, or safer...as I dealt with mass spit up (like a fountain) for at least a year. No reflux or anything apparently.

@lamariniere: one pat on the back would be nice! Every burp out of DS is 5+ minutes since he was newborn.
@josina: I saw that article and that is what got me thinking about it.
@Petitduck: in that case I would definitely keep burping. DS was like that until about a month ago.
Today I didn’t bother with trying to burp and he seemed fine.

@ALV91711: I do feel like it’s largely dependent on the kid. My friend also breastfed both her kids and said she never burped them. I breastfed and burped both and it really seemed necessary to keep milk down and so they would drink a little more. It was usually pretty quick to help them get the burp out though.

Doc said 6 months.
DS1 - we stopped at 6 months
DS2 - for some reason I kept doing it, albeit half-assed, until he stopped bottles around 11 months.
I also heard that in other countries it’s not really a thing. I have a couple of NZ friends and they were like “yeah we were told by our peds that it’s an American thing”.
And I also read that you only need to try for a minute or two. If you don’t get one in that time frame they probably don’t need it and you can stop.
