Just curious. I've noticed I don't do it as much but don't know if I am slacking or if it normally starts becoming less necessary around now...
ETA-- just realized that may not have been clear LOL!

I noticed this past weekend that I haven't been burping her for a while now! She is 8.5 months and I would say I stopped (unintentionally really) around 6 months maybe?
Burping her stopped being effective and she seemed to burp better on her own while sitting up a few minutes after eating. We hadn't burped for bedtime or night feedings for even longer, I would say 3-4 months we stopped those since they woke her up so much.

Hahah, I'm dying at the ETA title! We also kind of just trailed off sometime around 4-5 months. I can't really remember? He just didn't seem to need it. He's 10 months now and will burp on his own if he needs it

@lindseykaye: Yeah I feel like I stopped night burps really early on since he rarely burped at night anyway. (And then he was sleeping through the night around 2 months-- ah those were the days...) We are at 4.5 months and I do still burp when he gets fussy but I guess I don't do it automatically anymore...
@mewtill: Ha Ha. I looked back at the post and was like, hmmm... not sure that was clear anywhere on here. I mean, when I was preggo I did plenty of burping myself, so it could have meant that.

I still burp him (5 months), but I definitely am slacking off. I just give him a few pats on the back and if he burps, great, if he doesn't, I figure he didn't need to! And I rarely burp him after his night feed because I don't want to wake him up! He hasn't spit up after it yet, so I'm assuming he's good to go!

I still do at 4.5 months, but she doesn't always burp. Usually never does after her last nursing session right before bed. An never in the middle of the night.

@Smurfette: I wonder why that is... about the night burping... I always thought it was weird that he spits up all day but at night, never a burp or a spit up.

@travellingbee: I know. Even as a newborn she never would burp at night. She still spits up during the day, not as much as a month ago but never in the middle if the night. She will sometimes spit up at night when going to sleep but I think it is cause she sucks on her hand and then almost gags herself.

I stopped around 5 months, only because she would do it on her own. I will sometimes give her a quick pat now (10 months) if I feel like she has one in there that's not coming out.

He's a little over 5 months and I havent been doing it much lately - he just burps on his own a few minutes after he eats!
