I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon seeing she's just shy of being 3 weeks old, but I can't seem to remember when I stopped with Mavrick.
When do you stop sterilizing bottles, nipples, pumping parts?

We just threw them all in the dishwasher, which sterilizes. Otherwise we never sterilized. Babies need to get colonized with bacteria anyway.

I sterilized before using for the first time and then just hand washed and/or threw in the dishwasher. Was I supposed to sterilize more often? Haha oops.

I just sterilized the first time too. I just wash with hot water and soap.

@Mrs. Jacks: Oh I completely agree!!! I'm not the type to over clean everything... but seeing she's so small, then ya, I might do it for a while. I've put it in the dishwasher before... but I just find that it doesn't clean the bottle nipples properly.
Maybe I need some sort of compartment for my dishwasher?

@zippylef: That's what I would like to do, but feel like there's soap residue or something.
I think I did it for about 4 months or 5 with Mavrick.

@chopsuey119: Lol, I followed the directions on the package, which says handwashing is fine. I have enough crap to do around here, I don't need to add more to my list!

I just sterilized the first time and now hand wash or was in the dish washer. The only thing I still sterilize is my nipple shield because that thing gets dropped on the ground and covered in dog hair daily.

We used the dishwasher to sterilize, too. It seemed clean.

I sterilized my pump before first use and our bottles. For some reason I didn't even think to sterilize pacifiers. DD is just fine so I guess it's not a huge deal.

@blushink: see, that's why I hand-wash. Our water is hard and our dishwasher sometimes leaves calcium deposits on stuff.

@blushink: We have a Bosch that has a special protective basket for all the bottle parts. I just have to make sure to put the nipples in with the point part up and we're fine.

@zippylef: ya! hmmm... this will save me A LOT of time!!!
@Andrea: @Mrsdaredevil: Did you purchase something for the dishwasher specifically to wash the nipples and bottles?
GOLD / wonderful coffee bean / 18478 posts
@blushink: I just put the bottles straight in. For all the loose parts and nipples, I put them in a basket like Mrs. Jacks said: points up. We also switched to a gentle eco-friendly detergent.

@Andrea: Thanks! I will look into a basket. The only one I have in my dishwasher I use for the utensils. And it's always full!!!

I also only sterilized the bottles when new. I will sterilize nipples about once a month (they start to look a little cloudy).
Otherwise they go in the dishwasher. We have baskets that we put all the parts in (Dr. Browns).

I only sterilized my bottles once, right after buying them. I occasionally wash them in the diswasher too, but usually I just wash them by hand w/ hot soapy water.

I did it for 2 months with Charlie and didn't plan on sterilizing with Olive at all except before first use. But then she was a preemie, so I sterilized for the first month.

I just sterilized when I first bought my bottles, I'll do an occasional sterilize in the microwave w/ the medela bags

I sterilized everything before using it for the first time. After that, everything got washed by hand or put in the dishwasher. I would sterilize the nipples if I was hand washing though.

i'm with @artbee. sterilized it for first use and don't really sterilize it after. but my MIL sterilizes some for me. techincally, some, they say to just sterilize after first use. others say once a week. i would stik by the once a week.

I love how everyone is different and yay for not sterilizing daily. This makes me happy!!!

8 months, embarrasingly long, but I kind of got into a routine of handwashing and then plopping in the sterilizer to get them out of the way.
We don't use our dishwasher for bottle parts early on because we have hard water and use chemicals to make sure the machine runs properly.

@looch: it became a habit for me as well, that at one point my mom was like 'you're still sterilizing?' ha.

@blushink thank you for directing me here--and hooray for general consensus to be 'no need' for too long. i might just take this opportunity to stop!!

@woodentulip: haha! that's what I was waiting for. (though I never really started.. hehe)
