Ugh, so tough that it's LO's cousin. I think I would just keep focusing and praising positive behavior and discussing why we don't do the things you don't want her doing. If she gives you the "so and so does it" I use, "different mommies, different rules."

That's tough with it being a cousin. Def adds another element.

My DD is over 3.5, and there is a 4 year old in her class who uses VERY BAD words. That was our recent struggle. This child can cuss with the best of them, and even knows HOW to. He can swear in perfect context and knows HOW to use the words. So when my DD came home and dropped the F* bomb I was pretty alarmed. I talked to the teacher about it and we talked a lot to LO about it and just kept addressing what IS and IS NOT appropriate behavior and language in our home. She used a few words a couple times, but I think (Knock on wood) we have it under control and she hasn't in awhile now.

Someone already said something about talking to the parents IF you think you could. The other route would be talking to the teacher to see if they could help encourage her to play with other friends or re-direct her in activities that may help her meet and play with others more.

This is so tough (especially they are relatives!), I have no useful advice except to comment and show my support! It is so hard we can not control how other people raise their kids and how their kids behave. Sometimes you can't even talk to those parents because then they'd get offended, you know?

My DS had "friends" who are very physical (as in punching and pushing), and would call him names or use bad words. DS has been a very good "rule follower" (not sure if I should be happy about it or not) and usually wouldn't use bad words as he'd explain that "it is bad and it will get him in trouble".

What would you say about your relative's parenting style? What do they do when their child does undesireable behavior, like ignoring or teasing and such?

One thing you can do is to talk to your child a lot about it, and teaching her about making good choices. Ignoring / excluding and teasing are things that will hurt other people's feelings and make other people unhappy. We want to treat others with love and respect regardless of who they are. You love her very much, and you trust that she wouldn't do such things even though other people does it.

Set up some play dates with other kids in her class to help her branch out maybe?
