Where are the blog posts

Man, am I the only one that hasn’t noticed any big changes? I stopped reading the blogs a long time ago so that hasn’t impacted me, but the boards function exactly the same as they always have for me.

@periwinklebee: I'm in the exact same situation and definitely would love to see the community continue. I know folks were weary of shifting to Facebook for privacy reasons but that could be an option to recreate a forum there. Does anyone have experience with Google Groups as an option?

  3. Mommy Finger

    pomegranate / 3272 posts

@Madison43: I agree with you other than the fact that traffic on the boards have slowed waaaaaaaay down.

  4. cat620

    pear / 1809 posts

I've noticed the traffic on the boards slowing down too. It seems like fewer people are interacting on the site, but I don't blame them if they feel like nobody is maintaining the site.

maybe we could try a subreddit? that way we still anonymity, it's free, can still be modded/protected/have some rules/structure. idk, just throwing out ideas.

  6. Mrs. Starfish

    blogger / apricot / 439 posts

This bums me out so much! I’ve really enjoyed blogging here, and I hate to see it all slow down so much. I have written a couple of posts over the past month that haven’t been put up. I’m not sure what’s going on exactly, but I would join any alternatives! I love this community.

  7. gotkimchi

@Mrs. Starfish: that’s sad to hear and to me really says they don’t care anymore

  8. dolphin

    pomegranate / 3768 posts

Does anyone personally know the Bees that can reach out to them? I emailed bee@hellobee.com and info@hellobee.com but no response. Not sure if they even check their hello bee emails....

  9. Mrsbells

    squash / 13199 posts

@Mrs. Starfish: who handles posting them? I always thought reach blogger could post whenever

  10. Mrs. Starfish

    blogger / apricot / 439 posts

@dolphin: That’s the only email address that I’ve ever used to reach her in the past.
@Mrsbells: Mrs. Peas took over editing and posting final posts a few months ago, but I know she has had so much going on. Before that, I always thought it was Mrs. Bee who edited and posted final posts.

  11. Mrs. Cereal

    blogger / kiwi / 626 posts

I also reached out to the Bees and I have had no response and like Mrs. Starfish, I also have a few blog posts that are sitting unedited and pending. I offered to assist Mrs. Peas, but no response. I know she is crazy busy, so I am in no way placing blame on her.

I am upset at this entire situation and I don't want this place to die. At this point I just want to know what is going on. I don't even know where to start to try to find another place to "meet".

I support the idea of using reddit!

  13. looch

    wonderful pear / 26210 posts

I feel like i should actively shut down my account, rather than leave it open...does anyone know if it even makes a difference?

  14. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

I haven't used reddit personally but my understanding is that it should work similarly to the boards, and it is not going to go anywhere. I'm willing to join a move, otherwise I feel like people will slowly leave (already this has happened) until either it just dies, or gets wiped out by some sort of spam or hacking attack...

@looch: what if you changed the email associated with your account to a gmail account set up just for online use? I would guess that would overwrite whatever email you were using before in the database behind the site. And obviously change the password...

  15. gotkimchi

    nectarine / 2400 posts

@looch: @periwinklebee: yes I think this is a good idea

  16. kiddosc

I am really mad that this is the way this is going to go down, this was such a great community and support for people. A parenting forum that was educated and respectful is a rare jewel on the internet. It is truly disappointing to be ghosted like this and not at all in keeping with the spirit of the community.

  17. Mrs. Toad

    persimmon / 1095 posts

I'm willing to go to Reddit as well. This is my only parenting site. I don't have a IRL group and expect to move several times (military member) over the next few years.

  18. justjules

    apricot / 488 posts

It's sad that no one knows what is going on. I follow Mrs Bee on Pinterest and she pins A LOT, so they still have internet. I feel like after all this time they should at the very least give an update?

I would go to reddit as well.

  19. BadgerMom

    persimmon / 1385 posts

I've become really annoyed with how the Bee's have handled this. I feel like we've all cut them A LOT of slack knowing things haven't been easy for them and they've been going through a lot. And I don't think that they owe us a personal update or rational for letting it go this long, but I DO think they owe us an update on the state of the site that we've all invested in, even if it's just to say that it's not something that they can devote any time to anymore and they will be letting it go.

  20. looch

    wonderful pear / 26210 posts

@periwinklebee: I did change the email already, to one that I reserve for spam. I hated to do it, but I guess I was getting ready.

  21. codeitall

    clementine / 874 posts

I also would be fine with a move to Reddit. My only concern is that once you move to Reddit, you really are part of a larger community and policing it becomes an even bigger task. I worry we'd lose our kind group quality...

Like @Madison43 I haven't really noticed a change in the website other than overall traffic slowing down. I use Chrome on Android and Mac and haven't notice any ad issues.

  22. Mrs. Carrot

    blogger / nectarine / 2043 posts

@Mrs. Cereal: Same here. The bloggers aren't able to edit and post their own stuff, otherwise I'm sure we all would to keep the site going. I spoke with @Mrs. Peas a few weeks ago when she updated here, and the responsibility of the site was just not manageable for her with everything else she has going on, and I'm guessing she hasn't heard from the Bees either and that's why there is no movement on the blog.

  23. justjules

    apricot / 488 posts

@codeitall: from what I know of reddit, a subgroup can appoint mods that can police threads. the group would just set up some ground rules eg- no hate speech, spam, etc. And our appointed mods could remove any posts that fall into those categories, ban bots or hecklers etc.
Other people with more experience with reddit can add to my understanding. I've been on it but have no experience with setting up a new group.

  24. babypugs

    persimmon / 1101 posts

I would be down to join a subreddit.

  25. periwinklebee

    grapefruit / 4466 posts

This post is useful about Reddit - https://www.digitaltrends.com/how-to/how-to-create-your-own-subreddit/

One advantage of being a huge site is that they have pretty effective anti-spam filters. You can create a closed community or ban users that don't abide by the rules, but obviously that means more work for the mods.

  26. Mrs. Cereal

    blogger / kiwi / 626 posts

If we did a subreddit, would people be willing to mod for a term (I'm thinking 6 months or a year) so that the commitment is not overwhelming?

  27. Adira

    wonderful pomelo / 30692 posts

@Mrs. Cereal: I'm not a current Blogger or Hostess, but I'm fairly active on HB and would be willing to help out in future endeavors to keep this community alive.

  28. erinbaderin

    pomelo / 5573 posts

@Mrs. Cereal: I would be willing, absolutely. I love this community and would be happy to pitch in to keep it going.

  29. Littlebit7

    nectarine / 2243 posts

@Adira: I’d pitch in. I use reddit; I’m not proficient but I’m a member of a community or two on there. I feel like HB is sort of a ticking time bomb of implosion.

  30. Sams Mom

    grapefruit / 4492 posts

@Mrs. Cereal: I'd help if the community migrated there. I am on reddit for one sub, but can learn.

  31. Littlebit7

    nectarine / 2243 posts

TBH a move to reddit would be refreshing. The app makes it really easy to use, easy to get notifications without flooding your inbox, you can chat or privately message (unlike the wall which is only 50% private), etc.

  32. LadyDi

    persimmon / 1380 posts

@justjules: That's frustrating to know that she's pinning, but we have no update here. At this point, I would be happy for just a quick update about what's happening with the site. They have to know that this community has meant a lot to a lot of women.

@Mrs. Cereal: I'd be happy to help on reddit and be a moderator, but I have zero reddit experience. I actually reached out to Mrs. Peas a couple of weeks ago to say that I would be willing to help here on HB where I could. I recently became a SAHM so I have some time! I am not a big poster but I have been a lurker for quite some time and it makes me sad to see this happen to the site.

  33. Ajsmommy

    pomegranate / 3355 posts

I'm so sad this is (*might*) be happening... If everyone migrates I will try to too but I'm not familiar with reddit and I'm not great with technology either so I'm afraid i'll be lost HB has been such a good source of info and support for me for the past 5 years..... I really hope to stay a part of it wherever it goes....

If it moves to "reddit" will there be instructions or directions on how to join/find it?? (sorry, but like I said..... really technologically impaired here)

  34. crazydoglady

    nectarine / 2431 posts

I would totally support a move and would be happy to help!

  35. MountainBaby

I'm not super active on here, but I do browse a lot and enjoy the resource. I use reddit now, it's probably the easiest alternative, but wouldn't be as organized as the boards here (we'd probably just have one large board) and no real way to host blogs or anything. However, it's stable, established and there could be both a private and a public subreddit. We would want to think of some way to make it distinct from other general parenting subreddits that already exist otherwise it will just fade into the larger subreddits over time.

  36. smuckers

    apricot / 390 posts

i know that i'm the one who suggested reddit, but something to consider: a lot of work networks will likely block reddit, which could discourage some traffic that we're used to seeing (e.g. my work network blocks reddit but doesn't block hellobee). additionally, i'm not sure what copyright or trademark the bees may have over the term hellobee, so we might need to come up with a different term for the sub.

  37. Sams Mom

    grapefruit / 4492 posts

I think wordpress or google groups have potential for well organized forums.

  38. Littlebit7

    nectarine / 2243 posts

Does anyone want to take her for a spin?

I just did this quickly (like 2 minutes), and can just as quickly delete it. This is just mainly so people can see what reddit looks like although there are no posts right now.

    https://www.reddit.com/r/GoodbyeBeeHelloBee/?st=JLPIJ7YA&sh=f471133b

Also: reddit looks basic and old school on their basic webpage but much better on the mobile site and app. So don’t let that scare you.
For those who might be blocked at work, would it work on your mobile phone in app form?

  39. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

@Mrs. Cereal: I am willing to mod as well as I am fairly active/regular on here

  40. snowjewelz

    wonderful kiwi / 23653 posts

I think migrating is not going to be overnight anyway! Someone has to make the subreddit, everyone can slowly start joining and we can go from there? Funny, my username there is the same anyway

Also just to throw it out there, I know us Dec 2014 moms have a FB group going on too, so if you are okay with being in a non-anonymous group but with a smaller group of people, that can happen too. I know we have a couple moms that left HB but we keep in touch there.
