DH and I are working on a home study for embryo adoption and need three references to write letters for us. One of them has to be from "school, church, or community group." I think we are going to ask my boss and close friends who have children, but we don't know who to ask for the third. Too bad we can't use our mothers. They would only have nice things to say.

Do you keep in touch with any old teachers or professors? I still go out to lunch or dinner every once in a while with my old teachers so I would ask them. Good luck and hope everything turns out good!

Do you have any family friends that would write something like your mothers would write?
My mom has a church friend or two that we've known since I was in middle school who I would consider.

We asked each of our best friends (whom we knew from work and school) and a neighbor that we are friends with.

one set of neighbors (similar age), our other close friends (5-10 years older than us), and then DH's mentor (15 years older). good range of people. and i know this because DH has asked them for recs for his hiring process!
