I have always assumed that I will have at least two children. As far as how many we will end up having, I say we'll decide after we get to two and see what that's like. I have never really considered that I might want to stop after one!
For those of you planning to be "one and done," why did you decide that? Was it before or after your LO? And for those who want more, why do you want your LO to have siblings?

We don't have kids yet, but I thought I would share my parent's story. After my mom had me she had serious PPD and then bi-polar disorder. The medication that bi-polars take often interfere with a pregnancy, and she couldn't get of the medicine long enough to have another baby. So that's why my parents stopped at one. They wanted to have more but it wasn't safe, and they weren't interested in adoption.

I'm close with my siblings so I'd like her to have that to. But I want more kids for selfish reasons more than the fact that my lo will have siblings. I just love having a baby and I want more!

We're not saying for sure which we'll end up doing, but we would like to have two. Actually, DH doesn't have a preference -- he just for sure wants one, and is fine with two, but we're both only children, and we both grew up in very large families that are not so large any longer (deaths, divorces, family rifts). I hate the idea of it being me, DH, and one LO... I'm sure it wouldn't actually be lonely or sad, but for some reason, it feels that way to me. I'd even love to have three, but I would want to be a SAHM mom at that point, and I'm not sure DH's career path (and its associated paychecks) would ever allow for that.

Growing up with a large family I've always known that I wanted around 4. I love the relationship I have with my siblings and want my LO to have the same.

My relationship with my brother is really important to me. And I just think it's better for a child to grow up with a sibling. So we def want at least two. We've agreed that if the first two are a boy and a girl we'll stop. If they are both the same sex, we'll look at finance and our family situation and decide if we want to try for a third.

We don't have any kids and we both agreed we want 3 kids (with the option to stop at 2 depending on if we change our minds after the first).
DH is an only child and always wanted siblings so he actually wants as many as we can have possible!
I, on the other hand, will be maxed out at 3. My younger brother and I are super close (1.5 years apart) and I would want that bond for my children as well. Three being the magic number is that we always grew up saying we wished we had one more sibling! 
Ideally, I'd like 2 boys and 1 girl (in that order, so the boys can help "protect" the girl!)

I want to have at least two. I'm an only child and while I didn't hate it by any means, I think sibling relationships are really important. I want my kids to know what that's like--my husband's relationship with his brother is really sweet.

I used to want none but after my daughter was born I knew I wanted more kids. Now with #2 on the way I don't know how many more we will have but we are definitely considering adopting a child as well.

We want to have several, a blend of biological and adopted little ones. I've always loved the dynamic of big families, and I think that if you have both the time and money to properly raise your kids without needing outside help, then go for it!
I honestly think we'll end up with about 5, although I wouldn't be totally against more if we could handle it financially.
I've worked as a babysitter and an au pair with lots of families of different sizes - and I've always felt that a big family was a wonderful place to be.

we each were from families of 5 and 3 kids just feels like a family to us. i think we each have an unspoken desire for at least one of each although we're both from 2 girl, 1 boy families. i couldn't imagine just one for our family. i think our siblings have made us who we are to a certain extent.

We are going to have one. We would like to provide the best life possible for that child and to do so, we don't feel like we can have even 2. I always thought I would have 2 children but circumstances change...

I want a big family, and so does DH...I just think that a lot of family traditions and events are more fun with more people. So we'll hopefully be able to have 3 kids

We are still trying to decide if we want more kids. We may be one and done. Before having the LO, we always said we would have 2. But the reality is that it is really difficult just handling one child with two working parents and no back-up so we are hesitant. However, if we had some family support around, I would think this hesitation wouldn't be there. Also, I am an only child so I don't believe it when people say not having siblings is bad for you. I say phooey to that.

My husband and I are both only children with completely different perspectives on the topic. He is an only child because his parents could only afford having 1 child. He loved being an only child and would be ok with us having just 1 child because he saw the benefits of always having his parents undivided attention, etc. I was an only child because my parents didn't want more. While now I see the benefits, I desperately wanted a sibling growing up and do not want (if possible) to only have 1 child. I love the idea of a loud house filled with children and their friends. I think there are lots of things that can be learned through siblings such as sharing, combative skills, how to make friends, etc. Not to mention, it makes me sad that my soon-to-be son won't have any true Aunts or Uncles or 1st cousins.

My husband and I both have siblings, so we always just assumed we'd have two kids. Plus, my husband is fairly close with his cousins, so we want our children's children to have cousins, and hopefully be close. I mean, I guess we'll see what happens after we have #1, but having two has always been our plan.
