So, DH and I are looking at ways to save money and I found that we can save quite a bit of money moving our LO from one daycare center to another daycare center. I have no real issues with his current daycare, except that it costs $375 a week and the new one will cost $338 a week. Would you switch over $37 a week?

Is it exactly the same except for cost? Distance? What they provide vs. what you have to provide?

Do you like the other one just as much? And how long will you be at that daycare? If you are thinking of this over the course of a couple of years that would add up, but if the prices will change in a few months when LO changes age groups or something, it might not be worth the adjustment. And I would need to be sure that I was really as comfortable with the cheaper one.

Are the differences between the daycares significant? For my family, I LOVE the daycare my daughter is at right now and for us to decide to move her to a different one would require a HUGE chunk in savings, crystal, gold, and gourmet cooking...LOL!

It's for the toddler room which he will be in for awhile. The current daycare provides only food which would be the same for the new daycare. The new daycare is actually closer and would make my commute shorter. LO is happy at his current place so that's the reason I'm not pulling the trigger on switching him.

I said yes, provided you like the other daycare just as much!
It may only be $37/week, but it adds up to about 2K a year.
That being said, i chose an in-home for $38 more a week, but I like it so much more than the center
If I felt the same about them both, I'd switch

I think it just depends. If I liked both day cares the same, I would. That much money a week adds up!

@artbee: That's what I was thinking especially if you have more than one child and they will be in daycare until they start kindergarten.

Since we will be eventually switching LO to a nanny, DH doesn't see the point in switching daycares.

I don't know. If I liked the current daycare I would be hesitant too. Who's to say you'll like the new daycare?
I have considered switching LO to a more expensive daycare that we liked more in visits.
Do you love Los daycare or is it just alright?

I do like his current daycare. Plus, we will be pulling him out when we have LO #2. So DH doesn't see the point in moving him now.

@littlek: I don't think a baby that young would even notice a huge difference and I think as long as that new place is decent, he would like it equally.
$37/W really adds up, so yes, i'd switch as long as I initially liked the 2nd place. I mean, you can't predict the future.
You can't *know* if you'll like the new place *as much*, all you can do is make the right financial decision for your family and hope for the best!
I'd have faith & do it! -
How are you with change? Do you know the teachers at the new place are you comfortable with them? If yes, yes. I'm all about saving a buck.

I'm brand new to the daycare world but a daycare is a business like any other. If you liked both centers equally I would tell the director you were planning to leave because you found a better deal. You might be able to negotiate a better rate if they don't have a long wait list. An empty spot would cost them a lot more than $37 a week.

@Corduroy: that's a great idea! even with getting a nanny with #2, that money adds up fast!
