I have a hyphenated last name now, though it took me getting pregnant before I actually decided to do it. We are going to pass my hyphenated last name onto our kids. I kind of assume in the future they they would drop the first part of the name and go with the more unique second portion, but that would be up to them.

Neither of us do. In our area growing up, I don't think anyone grew up with a hyphenated name, although I'm sure there must have been SOMEONE.

When we got married I made the decision to take his last name (and relegate my maiden name to a middle name).

My youngest sister however, she was given a hyphenated name because our mom and her dad couldn't agree on one name or the other. He insisted she have his name, and mom said that since they weren't married, that wasn't going to happen. the compromise was hyphens.
I don't know what my sister will end up doing later in life, that will be interesting to see.

I took my husband's last name and our kids will have it too. I am still a little attached to my maiden name but hubby's last name is more unique and I like that.

We have separate last names. He has his and I kept mine, although I will eventually hyphenate when I don't have to deal with the military paperwork anymore (because we lives overseas, it makes it 10x more complicated to change my name). The LO will just have his name.

I hyphenated my last name. We decided that my maiden name will be our LO's middle name, and will have husband's last name.

We never considered hyphenating, but we did include my maiden name in my LO's middle name.
