For background, FI is working in KY, our son and I are in MN and I am pregnant.

She had asked if I was coming over for Christmas and my FI said to text me and ask, that I was at my moms. She said no she always asks and she will just mail our Xmas presents. FI said nobody is at the house, and she was confused because she thought I wasn't flying out there until the 22nd. FI repeated that I was at my moms. FMIL kind of lives between my mom's house and our house. But its also east and adds a lot of drive time which is hard with a 13 month old. Anyways, FMIL then said oh its nice her mom gets to see Gavin so much. I come to my moms once a month for a few days because I'm high risk and seeing a specialist in Minneapolis and my mom lives around here.
FI explained that to her again, and said that its also frustrating that whenever we visit she tends to lecture and that gets old. FMIL said "Thanks. Did she kill the cats too or just your dog?"

---FI rescued a dog with his own money at 12 years old. FMIL forced us to take said dog who is now 15 years old, has arthritis and is deteriorating because her bf wants to get another dog. Our landlord does not allow dogs in the house. She started losing control of her bladder, ruined our carpet, and has been losing tons of weight. She's also depressed that FI is gone. So I had to have the dog put down. FMIL evidently was pissed about this and made a rude remark to me in a prior conversation and I have not talked to her since.. that was probably 12 day ago now. She then dragged it out about she bailed us out (bad car loan) when my "mommy" wouldn't.

Anywho, the killing the cat/dog comment was completely out of line. I haven't said a word to her.

I'm also not sure how to go about mending things. Surely she knows FI was going to talk to me about his frustrations because he was not happy with her for saying that. But quite frankly I think she owes us both an apology for that and the previous remark to made to me about not bringing her a dead dog to burry when I asked if the ground was too cold to burry the dog there since it would mean a lot to FI and she has 20 acres.
