My 2yo recently started sleeping with a blanket in his crib, and it seems to have started some new sleep issues. He went from 100% STTN virtually every night to crying every time he wakes up uncovered (usually 2-4 times a night, although some happen before we're in bed ourselves). We've tried waiting him out to see if he figures it out before going in to cover him again, but 30+ minutes of whining at 4am is hard to take when you have to be up at 5:15! Apparently he manages his own blanket just fine during naps at daycare, go figure.

What would you do? Do you have any tricks for keeping a blanket in place? (I know he won't stay still while sleeping until he's older.) Would you try some sort of remedial sleep training while letting him have the blanket? Or just just hide all the blankets in the house until he forgets about it? Could we be dealing with some sort of normal sleep regression that just happened to coincide with introducing the blanket?

Warmth is not the issue, he just likes being covered with it so I don't think a sleep sack will fix the problem. He's a bit of a hoarder in bed with several stuffed animals/books that he insists on sleeping on top of, everything needs to be just so!
