When your LO turned one, what were you feeling? With my first I felt a sense of accomplishment that I'd made it through and he was healthy and developing well. I also felt like, Thank God we're done with that part! With this one I feel a little more nostalgic and a bit sad. Because it went so fast and he is our last. I wasn't really expecting that.

I was sad. For his second birthday we planned his party for the weekend after his birthday instead of the weekend before it so I was able to distract myself from feeling sad by party planning!

@travellingbee: same as you both times. First one I was like, we did it! Go us! Second kid I feel like the year flew and I didn't get a chance to enjoy her first year because I was just barely keeping it all together and it makes me kind of sad.
Also, with my first I was so excited about the coming stages and ages. Now I know what three is like and I can't say I'm excited to do this again.

I was thrilled. So long, baby years! Older, more fun, less difficult years could not come any faster for me.

@travellingbee: Really similar to how you felt for #1! I was just excited that we got here, feeling great that she was walking and having words, etc. Also so happy to be done with formula since I dried up around 9 months. With my 2nd, since she is most likely our last baby, I'll be sure to be way more emotional!

With DS I was elated and so oroud. With DD our marriage was at (what I hope was) rock bottom and she's our last baby so I was sad to see the baby stage end, grateful to see it end, joyful, devastated, but mostly numb and desperately pushing through on autopilot.

@travellingbee: @Foodnerd81: Same for me both times too. It feels so much faster the second time, and I realize they only continue to pull further away after that.
That said, my second is having a ton of fun with the birthday because she has my first singing to her, "helping" her eat cake, and "helping" her blow out her candle. My first was more confused and unaware of the whole birthday thing when she turned one.

I got teary-eyed... because I made it alive through the hardest, most relentless year of my life. He's now almost 15 months and things have never been better!
