@Bao: I gotta admit that's a lot for one paw patrol gift! But just tell people and they can find a deal or decide if they want to pay it.

If it's a money issue, return (or keep till birthday) a few other toys to get it for her. I mean, it's the magic of Santa to find that one special toy under the tree. If she kinda wants it but has another super special toy already waiting then skip it or tell Grandma/Grandpa about it. That's the magic of Grandparents!

I don't know if this is a popular answer or anyone else's style, but when we have to face this in the future I'd like to explain to my LOs that some gifts cost more than others and when something is very expensive, there's less money to spend on other people's gifts. And Christmas is such a fun time because we can pick out presents for our friends and family, but sometimes that means we can't get all the toys we'd really like. If this expensive toy is still something you want when your birthday arrives, you can add it to your birthday wish list.

I have no idea if that really works... My LOs are only 18 months! But I think by the time they can start really asking for specific toys, they should also start to learn about the value of money.

My son doesn't ask for things very often, so when he does, I try to make it happen for him. He doesn't forget and he really does get disappointed. So even though I might be so syked about the gift i picked out, I get that the disappointment he feels is real.

Did she express that she wanted the other things you bought?

I'm all done shopping for DD but at Costco this weekend she saw a Frozen Barbie set that she wanted sooo badly. She even said "I ask Santa for it". She's been talking about it non stop. Since it's the one and only thing she's asked for, I'll make sure she gets it. It's $60 though, ugh. I'll either have my mom get it for her if she needs ideas, or ill save one of her original gifts for her birthday.

This is part of why we are holding off, to give LO time tell us something she really wants. For $50 I would probably just get it even if we already had other things, but I know we are very fortunate to be able to do that.

@Bao: I think you have a few options, you can put something you bought away for a birthday, you could sell something (I like this idea a lot) or you could ask her if she wants to earn it by doing chores. This works really well with my son, he will try very hard to accomplish the chores if it means a tangible reward.

I'll be honest, it's not always about the money, it's more the principle. You can't always get what you want.

Could you talk her around to a smaller paw patrol item, or something you already have waiting for her? My three year old really wanted a pink jeep for Anerican Girl sized dolls she saw at Target...I was willing to spend the $$ for Santa to get it, but size wise it is a monstrosity and DH is saying he does t want to look at it in the living room all the time, haha.. I've been planting the seed for a smaller pink car (like a Barbie car), and I think it's working.....hopefully she's not too crushed on Christmas.

I would vote for shuffling things around/returning things if she really wants it.

Would your daughter be getting any kind of gift cards or gift money? Maybe you go to the store after christmas and let her "buy" it with her gift money

I'd probably get it, i truly believe in the magic of Christmas and doing whatever i can (within reason and budget) to get my kids the gifts they want. i'm a huge sucker so i would probably hold something else for their Easter basket or just add one more gift.

I'd get it, but this is definitely why I don't start super early. When I've done that in the past, even just for my husband, I end up getting so much stuff because I can't stop!

@Bao: I admire you for starting so early! The best part is that you can really enjoy the season cuz you're done shopping!

I would try to return something you already bought and/or save a present and set it aside until her birthday so that you can get her the item that she has been asking for.

I would figure out how to get it for my 3 y/o. I learned the hard way when she asked for Jake pirate ship and I already had her something else. It broke her little heart and I went right on amazin and overnighted it. It honestly broke her heart and she wanted nothing to do with the other toy that she normally would have lived.
