DS who is 11 months old throws a fit and freaks out when I try to feed him anything with texture. I've been feeding him stage 2 food for about 5 months. I've tried multiple times to move to stage 3, but he does his best to spit out all the chunks lol. He won't eat puffs, yogurt bites or anything else. If it's not 100% purée he flips! I don't get it! I should also say that he's not behind milestone wise but he is on the slow end. He still doesn't hold his bottle or crawl, and he just learned a month ago how to sit up on his own. So for now he seems content to roll himself where his toy is and then sit up to play with it. I plan to bring it up at his 12 month appt, but in the meantime I'm almost worried that if he doesn't start eating more, he won't be getting the nutrition he needs. Anybody else have a late eater, that can help my fears?

Sounds like a great question for your pediatrician. T loved avacado at that age and still does.

My 11 month old would barely eat any pureea or solids. She has been I introduced to a lot of different sizes and textures and CAN eat them, but chose to shun pretty much all solids most of the time. Coming up on 13 months and she's doing a lot better with food intake of all kinds.
See what your doctor says and keep trying stuff. I know I buy pouches that are 6+ or 8+ and they have things like quinoa or millet mixed in along with fruits and veggies and they're still smooth. I don't know what it's like with meat as we're vegetarians so I could see concern if those make purees chunky. Lentils also blend up quite smooth as do yellow split peas for protein and iron mixed with a fruit like apples just for ideas for purees. I feel if my kid would reliably have eaten purees at that age I would have been pretty happy that they were getting stuff in that way, but I get that it's a bit concerning that he may have a texture issue and not be learning how to deal with different shapes and sizes and types of food. Good luck, hopefully it's just a time thing and he's taking a bit longer to get into the food groove.

@Mrs. Goose: ok so it seems I'm over reacting a little lol. He does really good with the purees, so I'm betting your right and he's just not into the food life yet! Thanks for making me feel better

@Jackiedavis87: it's so stressful when your kid doesn't seem to be doing what most other kids are (or what you think most other kids are doing!) re: motor milestones, eating, etc.

My first son also hated any non pureed food. He also was pretty anti-spam cup. His pediatrician recommended we get him assessed for early intervention at his one year check up and he qualified because of the feeding (self care and fine motor skills). A speech therapist worked with him on feeding only for a couple of months and he quickly caught up. I think he would have been fine even without E. I. but it definitely sped up the process and helped us know how to better work with him.
