My 1 year old still has about 4-5 bottles of milk a day (6-9 ounces) .. Is this normal? I thought at her age she shouldn't be drinking so much milk anymore, but maybe I'm wrong? Wevswitched her to whole lactose free milk.

How is her solid intake?
My LO is almost 14 months and has 3 bottles a day, each with 6oz.

I agree to look at her solid intake and maybe talk to her doctor about it. My LO loves milk so I asked and was told to keep her milk intake between 16-24oz a day because if she drinks too much, she may not be eating much else and getting the nutrition she needs. She's drinking between 16-20oz a day right now.

I would ask your pediatrician. I think they generally only recommend 3 servings of dairy a day tops. Most sources I've seen recommend 2. A serving equals 1 cup (8oz), or 1.5 ounces of cheese.

My ped told us no more than 16-20oz per day after a year. Too much milk can impede iron absorption, I think.

that seems like a lot! i couldn't even drink that much milk in a day! haha
my 14.5 month old has 3 bottles of whole milk, totalling around 22oz a day, and when I asked the nurse about it she said that was fine. they recommend 3 servings a day here.

Crap. She eats solids really well! For breakfast today she had a scrambled egg, probably a cup of strawberries, and a yogurt. For lunch right now she's eating some pasta, cheese, strawberries and cantaloupe. For dinner she will probably have a sort of stew I make made out of ground turkey, green beans, potatoes, carrots and peas, as well as some more fruit, and maybe some cottage cheese.
She still gets up once per night, and the only thing that will calm her down is a bottle. Then she has another 8 ounces after breakfast/before her nap at 11, and then usually we're good for the rest of the day on solids until her 9 ounce bottle before bed.
It's not every day that she drinks that much, but some nights she will wake up 3 hours after going to sleep for a bottle, then again at 3 or 4. I don't know. We go through a litre of milk a day more or less. Argh.

Also, ideally you should switch to cups instead of bottles. I dont' know all of the exact reasoning though.

I just know I'm going to have this same problem
DD (9 months) is the best/easiest baby, until she's hungry and then you will give her a bottle or you WILL suffer. Since 6 months she's been drinking 40+ ounces, sometimes up to 45... Our biggest problem is night, too.

@wildcardinside: As long as she's eating well, and the milk isn't a subsitution for food, I think it might be OK?
I would consider eliminating the middle of the night bottle though. When I told my pediatrician that he was still taking a middle of the night feeding at 7 months he said it was more habit, than hunger. He quipped, "Do you wake up in the middle of night to eat? Then neither should he." It made perfect sense. He suggested I give him a bottle with a few ounces of water instead, but that he probably wouldn't drink it. The first night was not fun, the second was better, and on the third night he slept through it.
