I just found out that we can get our breast pump covered through our insurance. Here are the pumps that we can get for free:

Any advice on the best choice would be very much appreciated! I do plan to return to work at some point, but the return date is TBD, so I don't know how long I'll be home with baby.

if you can get it for free, freestyle of course! You'd regret it if you get the pump in style / advanced ....etc. because they are so heavy, bulky, and not as portable. Freestyle you can carry it everywhere like a cellphone, especially if you plan to do any kind of traveling in the future when you are still pumping/breastfeeding!

I was very happy with my Ameda Pump in Style. I think I had the Ultra but I think that just refers to the bag and the accessories?

@autumnlove: Now looking at the links I am thinking you are right. We were given a hand me down pump in style without all the extras, so I am trying to figure out the difference between that and the free style and if we should just get a new one. This is so confusing!

@maybebaby: So confusing! My ultra pump looks different (rounded corners and green bottom) but it worked the same as my friend's Purely Yours!
ETA: I'm a big nerd and I just called Ameda to ask about the difference between the Purely Yours and Purely Yours Ultra. The ultra looks different but operates exactly the same and has the same motor...they just wanted it to be more aesthetically pleasing!

The freestyle looks awesome but I've heard of a few people having issues with theirs? I just ordered a Medela PIS Metro style where the motor isn't built into the bag so it's a little less bulky .

I'd go with Ameda, it's a closed system so milk doesn't come in contact with the tubes or insides. I've read a lot of complaints about mold forming in medela pumps. Mrs. Bee wrote about finding mold on her parts here: http://www.hellobee.com/2012/03/14/cleaning-pump-parts/

I have the ameda purely yours. I don't think it's the ultra because it doesn't look like the one in the picture, but it came with the custom fit flanges, and a bag and all the other accessories. I really like it!
Eta- it really nice not having to clean the tubes!

@Foodnerd81: haha! Where does yours have to come from? Mine is Cambridge Medical Suppky and it turns out I didn't have a choice unless I wanted to pay more for a specific one. The Medela double pump in style (whatever it's called) has worked great.

@maybebaby: I have a few options but since I've seen people working with the Cambridge Medical Equipment company and I know they carry the pumps, I'm just sticking with them. Same thing-- I can get the basic double for free (well, I'm sure I'm paying for it in my insurance rates) or pay extra to upgrade.
