@Lilamo: Congrats on a successful retrieval and aspiration! Do you know if you'll do a 3 or 5 day transfer? Good luck!

@thisisme: My husband had his vasectomy over 10 years ago, and one side was "botched" in the surgery. Due to these factors, along with my age (almost 39) it was recommended to us by two dr.'s to go ahead with ivf vs. a vasectomy reversal.
I was very surprised at how quick the surgery was for him... Yes, we were both gimping around town last night before we headed back to the hotel room.

@Lilamo: Glad that your retrieval went well! Hope you are resting well today and get a good fertilization report!

@Lilamo: congrats on a good retrieval! I hope that hotel of yours has room service so you and your husband can just relax and watch TV today

Hi everyone- I just received a call that 3 of the 6 fertilized. I'm happy that at least 3 did... I'm so worried about it though. They don't seem like high numbers and I'm worried sick about it. I know it's out of my control, but it's so stressful.

@Lilamo: I think 50% is the expected fertilization rate, so you're right there! Are they talking about a day 3 or day 5 transfer for you

@thisisme: We had originally opted for the genetic testing due to some family history... so if we decide to do that it won't be until May til we do implantation. I have mixed feelings about this at this point. We thought we'd have a lot more fertilized eggs at this point. With only 3, with who knows how many arriving at the blastocyst stage, I just don't know anymore. If there is only one that gets to blastocyst, it seems weird to spend the extra money on testing. In hindsight, I wish we would have just settled on implantation this week.
This is hard.

@Lilamo: It's so hard not to second guess yourself after the fact! Keep looking forward. One step at a time!

Whoa! I just received some great news! One little egg is a bit behind the others and fertilized last night. So now we have 4!

@Lilamo: yay! That's amazing, I didn't even know they waited to see if others would fertilize!

Report on day 3 is.. all 4 are 8 celled and doing well. The nurse did remind me that the next step is a big one and that a 50% loss is *not* unusual.
Fingers crossed!

@Lilamo: That is great news!!! 8 cells are awesome! All of mine on Day 3 made it to day 5, so it CAN and does happen! Hoping all four of yours keep going!

Thank you everyone! We're waiting for our report tomorrow (day 5) on how the little guys did. Fingers crossed! We're planning an FET if all goes well.

Well the update is... one is an early blastocyst and they will freeze that one today. One probably won't make it as it's not growing much, and two are still in the compacted morula phase... the nurse said she has seen these grow into beautiful blasts or they can just stop. So basically it's a waiting game for the news tomorrow. I guess they can do day 6 blasts because we are doing an FET cycle.
She said you just don't really know if it's because they are slower than average or because they are weaker.
Waiting is..... hard. I'm trying to focus my energy on that one strong little embie.

I should add that the blastocyst embryo was considered "early." I"m a bit worried about my eggs just not being high quality. But alas, I will wait for news tomorrow.

@Lilamo: I know there have been bees on here who have had successful pregnancies with early blastocysts (raintreebee is one). Personally I had only early blasts last cycle and did not have success (and the rest didn't make it to day 6) but that's not always the case. Good luck!

As @Shutterbug mentioned, my early blastocyst is now a seven week old baby and is sleeping soundly next to me! I was convinced we didn't have a chance that cycle but you never know. The cycle with two perfect blasts failed and the one with an early blast succeeded!

That is heartening news :)... I'm crossing my fingers that the morulas will make it to day 6. Our nurse said it's possible. We'll see in the morning.

@Lilamo: Fingers crossed you get fantastic news today!!! I know how hard the wait is...just about drives you crazy, huh?! Hang in there!!

@Lilamo: oh no, I'm so sorry Do you still have the frozen early blast from yesterday?
cherry / 106 posts
@Shutterbug: I guess it didn't make it to freeze, or they waited... we aren't sure. We'll ask more questions once we compose ourselves. We just don't know what to do.

if we do this again, we'll definitely get some second opinions about the protocol we received.
man.... my hats off to ladies who have done this more than once. it's a gut-wrenching process.

@Lilamo: Which protocol did you use? I am on a new protocol this cycle, and I had a similar outcome to you last time (more eggs initially, but only 3 embryos left on day 5, and they were only early blastocysts). Last time I used an antagonist protocol, with Gonal-F and Ganirelix, and even though I had 13 mature follicles at ER, my E2 level was very low (750). This time I'm on an agonist (Lupron) protocol and my E2 level is 3900 and I'm doing my trigger tonight. That's a bit high, but more in line with the # of follicles they're seeing. I hope that you get some answers at your post-op appointment, and if you do go through it again, we'll be here for you!

I'm so sorry to hear this. Big hugs!!! Yes, definitely talk about a different protocol next time. Often times, that can make a big difference. I had my first cycle cancelled half way through, but then we tried a different protocol (no Lupron to suppress and no birth control pills) and that one worked much better. I'm so, so sorry.

Hi everyone- thank you so much for your support. It means a lot. My husband and I are having a rough morning. He's such a softie, he was wishing he could have read to the little embies in the dish at night.
Here's my protocol. I wrote it down so I wouldn't forget!
Our doctor started me on 450 IU of Follistim per day (225 morning and again at night). Also, 20 of Low-dose HCG per night. I was then put on 2 days of Ganirelix, and took my trigger shot (Novarel) on Day 8. They retrieved 6 eggs from 7 follicles. My husband had plenty of motile sperm from aspiration. They fertilized 4 of those eggs. All 4 had 8 cells on Day 3. On day 5 I received a call that one of them was still at 8 cells, one of them was an early blastocyst, and two of them were compacting morula. They wanted to wait until Day 6 to see what happens (they have a strict day 5 policy of implanting). We were to send them off for genetic testing (due to some family history stuff), but I received a call that they did not make it through the night (into day 6).

Also, they did put me on birth control pills beforehand for suppression.
I know two of my friends used donor eggs. I'm 38 years old. But I'm not ready to go there yet.
