I never in a million years thought my once nursaholic would stop nursing so early, but it's been over 2 weeks since she stopped and hasn't wanted to since! I read typical strikes last up to 10 days and it's been way longer than that.
I think it was a combination of her getting sick and getting 8-9 teeth in the course of under 2 months.
Has anyone else's baby self-weaned before a year?

I have clients who have had that happen. Around 11 months or so. Although it's not that common, it's not totally unheard of either. Are you supplementing?

@junebugmama: interesting- it started right around 10.5 months, she is 11 months now. I have been pumping about 4x/day, but our Ped gave us the go ahead to start whole milk so when i do not pump enough we mix some whole milk in with the BM. I try to get her to latch every day but she just looks at me with a smile on her face like "really, mom? you still trying that??"

but obviously I cant force her to nurse. I am sort of okay with it now, since it has been over 2 weeks. I am just a little confused because it came out of the blue, and everything I have read says that it is very uncommon for a baby under a year to self-wean, and wanted to see if any other moms had this happen to them.

@NovBaby1112: I would be a little a sad too. I hope someone else chimes in. I know the last client that had it happen also had a baby get a cold, and then wean.

It didn't happen to me (LO still nurses @ 14m) but my sister had it happen wiht my oldest niece. She just decided she didn't want to nurse anymore around 11months. My sister was pretty sad at first, but then she went on to breastfeed 4 more kids, so I think she's feeling okay with it now

yea, i figure it was probably for the best anyways bc LO was such a milk monster, so it probably would have been a very hard task of getting her weaned if she did not do it on her own. looks like it is pretty common around 11 months then!

It is uncommon, but I've certainly heard of it happening to people I know.
