There are tons where I live so it's actually pretty hard to meet other moms because most of the kids at the playground, library, play gyms, etc. are with nannies. Weekends are better .. but a lot of the nannies morph into dads so that doesn't help me either!

Tons. A lot of the classes LO and I go to are 75% nannies. Luckily I know several SAHMs that we spend time with!

Not too many, but there are some. I see a lot more grandma's taking care of grandchildren though.

No none....'nannies' around here are mostly older retired women looking for some extra income. Definitely no live in nannies in my city

I'd say I see a lot more nannies than SAHMs these days...
The other day at an indoor playground, one nanny asked me if my kids were mine or if I "take care of them"... when I said they were mine, it felt like she didn't want to make small talk anymore. There's such a division sometimes... it's annoying!

@SAHM0811: I've been asked the same thing before. I find that it helps if I don't dress like a bum. No one is going to ask me that if I'm dressed nicely, have my ering on, and a LV bag or something! But yes, I do feel the division as well.

There's not many (any?) nannie sin my neighborhood, but there are a ton of SAHMs. Unfortunately, there's often a division based on religious factors, and I'm still finding it hard to keep a conversation going once the moms find out I'm not one of them.

@Honeybee: It's unfortunate that there is always SOMETHING. There are a lot of French and Japanese ex-pats in my neighborhood and those moms keep to their own groups, too. They all get together and speak their native languages so it's understandable that they would prefer not to speak English just for me!

@Andrea: Ah, language barriers are tough, too! Have you tried any moms groups in your area? None of the groups I tried out worked for me, but I know other people have had success with meetup.com and the like!

@Andrea: I think the best place to meet parents is the playground, right after daycare gets out! When we get to the playground at 5:30/6 pm, it's almost all parents!! That might not what you're looking for though, since they're mostly working parents...
We went to the same playground at the same time every day, and met a number of parents that way... the other time that was great for meeting parents was first thing in the morning. Charlie used to wake up at 4:30/5 am for a long stretch, and I met a few parents on the swings that way... including some SAH parents.

@Honeybee: Not yet. I don't have big windows of time to attend organized activities yet. My baby won't sleep outside of the house so I always have to be home for naps and then there is preschool drop off/pick up for my older one. So it's easier for me to try and chat up random strangers at the moment where ever I go.
Boooo that meetup didn't work for you. Maybe you can start your own group?

@mrbee: Yeah that doesn't work for me. The baby is asleep by 5:30 pm so I have to be home. We go to the playground at 3:30 pm, after school, when it's still nannyville!

@Andrea: It'll get easier as your second DD gets older.
I thought about starting up my own group, but now I'm looking at going back to work soon, so I'm not sure it makes sense. Hopefully both of us will meet some new friends soon!

I hope we meet some more people once I start working again. My husband's office hasn't turned out any good candidates yet, lol.

@Honeybee: No...most of the moms at the preschool are the French and Japanese ones I mentioned previously. There is an American mom in DD's class that I need to stalk down. She also has a baby so we're both always wrestling two kids and it's hard to talk!
LOL. I always ask DH if there are any good candidates at his office, too.

I don't think there are a lot of nannies around me-- I think it's more working parents who use daycare.
There does seem to be a divide in my area though, but I think it's more socio-economic than anything. I'm one of the 'yuppie gentrifiers'. Not sure about the SAHMs yet, but I guess I'll find out in a few months.

@Andrea: Most of the grandma's I see do live here and watch their grandkids regularly. I see them every week at the library and gymboree.
