I speak Korean and English fluently and basic/somewhat conversational French!

I remember a little bit of my Italian and French, but little is the operative word.

Sadly, DH's parents did not teach him Thai. (Though I do know the important things, which is basically "That's too expensive" and any/all words for bodily functions.)

I know enough Spanish to communicate decently (minored in college, but that was 6 years ago, and if you don't use it, you lose it!) I also know a bit of German.

This post reminded me of a funny interaction at Starbucks - I was ordering with a friend, and she said commented that Starbucks has it's own language - the barista joked that he's bilingual, and took a month's worth of Rosetta Stone Starbucks when he was hired. I thought that was cheeky

I speak Cantonese and some Mandarin (and English of course). I hope that my LO will be bilingual as well

I speak Cantonese, understand some mandarin. I took 7 years of Spanish that I mostly gave back. It got me through Spain and Italy somehow.

I had grand allusions about being able to pass down my mother tongue to my daughter but I realize it's an uphill battle!

I guess techniquely, no, I'm not. I can understand my native language. I just can't have a conversation with someone without sounding like an idiot. Since most of my sentences would be in english.

I am conversational in German and I can buy a purse in six languages. I can read and write Hebrew, but still have a hard time with the pronunciations.

No. I wish I knew Spanish mostly because there are a lot of Spanish-speaking folks in our area and it would be nice to be able to communicate with the folks who don't have a strong grasp on English yet. I just can't seem to grasp languages. I'd like my child to grow up bilingual in English/Spanish.

If only I had the want to learn like my brother - he speaks French, Spanish, Italian, Mandarin and German.

I used to be very confidant in Spanish but now without practice not so much.
French I'm trying sort of, hopefully someday. I can read it decently and follow along conversations mostly but speaking it is intimidating.

I can speak Cantonese and another village Chinese dialect. My Mandarin is terrible, but I can understand a lot of it. Although, I only have a 1st grade reading and writing comprehension. I studied Italian for a while and knew a lot when I lived there for a summer, but now it's mostly gone. I can still pick up a few things when I hear it in conversation though. I've been really bad about speaking to LM in only Chinese. We speak to her in English. My mother does speak to her exclusively in Cantonese so I hope that helps!

i'm conversant in korean (feel like a resume). i know tiny bits of spanish - i wish i practiced it more when i was younger.
