If you BF and your LO takes a paci - when did you first introduce it ? Any trouble with nipple confusion?
I'm planning on BF but just bought a couple of pacis, just in case.

She takes a soothie pacifier and has had no issues with nipple confusion. I introduced it at about a week. She'll also self soothe with her hands - and takes a standard evenflo bottle nipple no problem!

LO got a paci in the hospital and it didn't cause any BF problems. LO also got a bottle at 3 weeks and that didn't cause problems either.
FWIW we used the soothies pacis.

@sorrycharlie: i hope this is our experience, too! would love for him to take any kind of nipple with no problem!
@bluebonnett: ok good! I think i bought Avent pacis - but may need to pick up some soothies. I think our hospital actually uses soothies, too.

@coacheswife123: could definitely happen! I don't give her a bottle with any regularity, once every couple weeks. Shell take the bottle from me too - as long as she's fed she's not picky! Lol

DS had a soothie given to him in the hospital and was fine... He was also given a bottle in the hospital too and has never had any problems (He was in the NICU so he had to do some feedings w/ a bottle)

We gave her a soother on the 3rd or 4th day I think? We used the Tommee Tippee ones, she took them fine until she turned about 6 and got settled on her thumb. No problems with nipple confusion, she's a champion nurser.

My son took a paci right away. He was a NICU baby and they teach them to take a paci so he can learn to suck. I wasn't able to breastfeed him till he was 6 days old and he latched right on. No nipple confusion at all, I feel like nipple confusion is a myth.

We introduced it at about 2 weeks and LO takes a bottle once a day. We use Avent soothie pacis and Avent bottles.

We introduced a paci around 5 weeks but it took a few tries to find one that worked for him. MAM was what he eventually took best and there was never any nipple confusion/preference.

yay! this thread makes me happy! All the nipple confusion talk was stressing me because, honestly, I know I'm going to want to give him a paci sometimes

We have used always used the MAM pacis. DS started with the tiniest MAM paci (it's called "nano") when he was just a few weeks. No nipple confusion at all and successful EBF.

@coacheswife123: I was worried about it too. But my LO took a bottle as well before I was allowed to breastfeed him. Breastfeeding is too much work for a preemie so we couldn't breastfeed for awhile, but his first time on the breast he latched right away and we have had no issues, he's 5 months and 2 weeks now.

My LO was given a pacifier in the hospital (without anyone asking me), but luckily it hasn't caused any problems. He doesn't really like them all that much, but he's only two weeks old. I'm not worried about nipple confusion (with bottles either).

LO took a soother starting on day 1 of life, and we also gave formula top-ups in the hospital by bottle (due to blood sugar and jaundice issues). We didn't have any issues with nipple confusion, and have been successful with breastfeeding even despite my flat nipples. Sawyer still loves his soother for falling asleep, but started refusing bottles at 8 weeks.

The nurses gave our LO a paci in the hospital. She hasn't had any nipple confusion from it. She also self soothes with her hands.

@krsmall: I feel the same. Though one of my friend's has a LO that will not take a bottle no matter what on the days that she goes in to work
I feel like DS got a better latch from taking the paci. I would use it to ease him off the breast when he had fallen asleep while nursing for over an hour, hahaha

We gave her one within the first couple of days, but my LO happens to be one of those babies who hates pacis! But she also never had any nipple confusion between the breast and bottle.
