I had the mini pill (Jolivette) didn't affect my supply at all. I felt completely normal on it, which is not my experience with the normal pill for me.
The stress of starting work again at 13 weeks pp caused my supply to dip a little, but extra pumping and Mother's Milk Tea regulated it again.
ETA- no failure here, but AF didn't return for me until 10 months pp being EBF, and I stopped the pill at 9 months pp to start getting ready to try for #2. My doc said to be very careful to take the pill at the same time every day, so I set my phone alarm for 10pm each night.

I think the only pill you can take is the mini pill which I've heard does not hurt supply, but has a high failure rate. I need to ask my ob about it as well.

@highwire: I know, scary ! But ebf/pumping plus taking it should be pretty safe...at least I hope so!

Not to freak anyone out, but a good friend of my did get pregnant on the mini pill while EBF. Her girls are 14 months apart. I never used the mini pill... I wasn't brave enough

I started the mini pill and it did affect my milk supply. I could be one of the many few though.

I took the mini pill and it didn't affect my supply but I pumped a lot and took fenugreek.

Have you considered an IUD? I was freaked out by the strict way you had to take the mini pill and how it wasn't always effective anyway, so I got the Mirena at 8 weeks pp. I had some light spotting/bleeding for about a month, but after that was fine. It didn't impact my milk supply and I love not having to give a second thought to birth control. We want more than one, but not right now!

@hilsy85: @highwire: if you're worried about failure rate, don't assume EBF'ing is safe! lol I am (not even pumping!) exclusively breast feeding and have had a regular 28-day cycle since 7 weeks pp! so sad

There is a good link somewhere on Kelly mom to breastfeeding and birth control. No bc here, I can't afford my supply to take a hit and wouldn't mind another baby!

I'm too scared to start BC. We didn't have sex for 12 weeks anyway so that part was easy. Now, I'm sure sure what we will do.

I had an IUD (Mirena) put in about 10 weeks PP and didn't notice any change in milk supply. I did spot for about 6 weeks, though.

The mini pill had no impact on my milk supply, but it did make me crazy, so I stopped taking it.
If you read the literature, the high failure rate is because you have to take the pill at the same time every day for it to work. Most people that take the mini pill are new moms and lucky if they brush their teeth every day, let alone take a pill at the exact same time every day.
