LO does pretty well with a sippy/straw cup but I'm not confident that he would take all of his milk (13.5 months old) this way.
When did you bottle wean?

12 months - his milk intake did drop for about 2-3 weeks, but then back to normal. I think it just took a little while to figure out milk comes in sippy cups now.

@Mamasig: Would you only do milk at mealtimes when you transitioned? Currently Xander (10.5 months) takes 3 bottles during the day (9:00, 12:30, 4:00) and has water with his meals. I'm not sure what/how I'm supposed to transition to having milk with meals...

@Adira: Thanks so much for bumping!
We're still on the bottle (he takes 3 bottles of milk at daycare now) but I am considering changing this soon.

@Periwinkle: That's exactly what Xander does - he takes 3 bottles at daycare and eats his meals in-between. I have no idea how to transition...

@Adira: He takes on average 3 sippy cups of milk per day and they aren't with meals. The first after breakfast or some time mid morning. Then usually one in the afternoon and one before bedtime. He drinks water with his meals.

We never put WCM in a bottle and are in the weaning process now (DD is 11.5 months).. DD went from nursing/bottles of BM to straw cups of WCM. She is now at nursing at wake up and bedtime, 1 bottle, and 2-3 cups of WCM. She *is* getting less milk these days because she rarely finishes her WCM. But from everything I have read, this stage should only last a few weeks. Her solids intake has definitely increased, and if she never gets back to drinking 16+ oz/ day of milk, I am totally okay with that. WCM will be offered with meals and snacks.

We started weaning him at 11.5 months...giving him almond milk in a straw cup at all meals...and slowly cutting out our nursing sessions/bottles (when I was at work) during the day. At AM/PM he almost always was nursing, so that was not a factor in the switch to a straw cup.
by 12.5 months he was taking all his milk in cups, we were weaned from nursing!

@mrsjyw: Did you ever combine BM and almond milk? Or when you were making the switch to almond milk, you just gave it to him straight-up?

We're in the process of transitioning. The boys started a new daycare and are now in the 1 year old room. They don't do bottles in there.
Before, they would have four bottles a day - wakeup, after AM nap, after PM nap and before bed - and get water in sippy/straw cups with meals. I'm leaving empty bottles at daycare in case they absolutely refuse the cup with milk so they can then pour it into the bottle instead for them to drink.
Because they also have to transition to 1 nap now, they're naturally getting one less bottle/feeding of milk per day and get it with lunch instead. We're still doing morning and bedtime bottles. Once they're totally fine with the midday sippy with milk, I plan to swap the morning bottle to a cup and then bedtime last.

@Adira: we did the first few cups, but he took to it rather easily, so we started giving it to him straight after checking his first few dirty diapers for signs of constipation, etc.

DD is 12.5 months and I've been trying to bottle wean but have been unsuccessful. She drinks water from a straw cup during meals but she refuses to drink milk out of anything other than a bottle. I've tried straw, sippy, and open cup but no success, so I end up pouring the milk back into a bottle. I'm just going to keep offering and hope one day she'll take it.

@dolphin: This is totally my fear! And I haven't even tried yet! I'm just scared!! I hope your DD figures it out soon!

@Adira: thanks! Me too! I never knew bottle weaning was gonna be this hard!
