First of all, where did that weird phrase 'cold turkey' come from?!

L's pediatrician wants her bottle weaned by 15 months. Fair enough. She's had a bottle exclusively since she was 4 weeks old and now will NOT give it up at home. She'll take a sippy cup at daycare and at Grandma's house, but will cry non-stop at home until DH or I give in. I have tried 3 different times on weekends to quit cold turkey, but she just screams at me all morning, and then I NEED her to take a nap, so I give in. I am convinced she would scream and cry all day if I refused her a bottle.

For water at home, she'll play with sippy cups and get a sip or two, but will really only drink water from a bottle.

I have heard plenty of success stories about just refusing the bottle, and when the child gets thirsty enough they'll give in and take the cup and then that's it. That is NOT my baby.

Anyone else have any other methods? Is there an actual reason she *needs* to give up the bottle, or should I just ignore the ped and let her continue with her bottle until she's ready...
