You're probably fine if it smells okay. I try to freeze within 72 hours.

In terms of when I freeze vs store in fridge, I pump for one 4 oz/bottle a day. I do two pumping sessions and whatever I get beyond those 4 oz goes in the freezer.

On my maternity leave, I would usually freeze within 48 hours,. I only really kept milk out if I knew I was using it for something, otherwise would just thaw frozen if I needed to do something away from baby. But, if what you have there smells fine I wouldn't hesitate to freeze it.

@Foodnerd81: Yeah it worked well for me! I am back at work and of course wishing I had pumped more often so I had a bigger stash, but if that's not a concern, it's pretty doable.

On Maternity leave, I also wanted to make sure I always had a bottle in the fridge, so I'd pump at least once a day and once I had 8 oz in the fridge, I'd freeze 4 of it. Doing this also helped me build a stash of about 60-70oz before returning to work at 12 weeks.

If she's just 6 weeks and you are not going back to work, I wouldn't even worry about pumping yet if the supply/demand is fine with all nursing! Enjoy it while you can before the evil pump comes in. Argh!

But after that, I've pumped and left in the fridge for 5 days before and freeze it and it seem to turn out OK. I'd freeze it within 3-5 days though.
