So, my adorable baby is 12 days old. I'm already a little sick of being confined to her nursery by myself (or with DH, but not with visitors). I want to try nursing with a cover so I can be less confined, but I'm not sure on logistics. I'm used to having her on the boppy, with another rolled up blanket under my wrist, and I know I can't do that elsewhere. How do you make it work without all the stuff piled up under the baby?!

Can you practice at home without all those things? I never used them so don't know any different, but I would say try to get a feel for it where you're comfortable, and then evetually give it a go in public! Good luck!!

I'm having this same issue - and my LO is 2.5 months! Thankfully I live in a very walkable neighbourhood, so it's easy for me to get out without having to feed her away from home...

I used to use all that but then practiced without and it only took a few days to get the hang of it.

Around 5/6 weeks I was able to breastfeed without any of the pillows, supports, etc. I would give it some time until your LO has better head control--soon she'll be a pro. As for breastfeeding in public, have you tried using a nursing cover at home? It took a few tries but now I'm pretty quick with it.

Practice! I did a couple of practice runs using the cover and without a pillow for support.

I can hack it without a pillow but have yet to get comfortable with a cover at three months. So I feel ya! LO has great head control now but is much more likely to move around and rip the cover off.

You'll get the hang of it. One of my friends did take her boppy when she went out, and she'd nurse like in the Nordstrom's ladies lounge. You might scope out some places like that. Or consider returning to your car if you are more comfortable, till you are a pro

What hold are you using? I always did football at home which was easiest with the pillow, but once I mastered cross cradle I could nurse with my legs crossed to prop her up on my knee. It's tricky when they still have such a weak neck, but that worked for me.

Practice and time and you'll get the hang of it. I could not nurse anywhere but my glider for the first 2 weeks. Once your LO gets more head control, it will get MUCH easier to nurse in public. For now maybe try going places where you can nurse privately like somewhere with a fitting room. Target was one of the first places I nursed while out.

When I first started moving away from the boppy/glider, I would use extra cushions on our couch. Now that LO is bigger and has better head control I can nurse pretty much anywhere and DO! I've nursed everywhere in our house and in the nursing rooms at BBB, in our car, etc.

It gets easier as they get a bit bigger. For the first little while (when she was really little) I would nurse in the car or in a dressing room just to make it easier on myself. I learned best by just doing it. Experience is the best teacher.

It took me a while to be able to nurse without a boppy (like over 12 weeks). But I did get more used to latching her on and it was a lot easier to nurser her while covered or discretely.

My LO is a month old today ! It gets easier! He can eat now without me having to hold his head, direct my boob, etc. it's so nice to have my hands back !

At first, I'd just leave the house with either the My Brest Friend or the Boppy in tow. As she got bigger, had better head control, etc. we didn't need the gear.

It definitely takes practice! FWIW, I crossed my legs and used my knee(s) as a wrist support when I needed to (before I just cradle hold LO). I also kept a rolled up A+A swaddle blanket (held by a ponytail holder) in my diaper bag for wrist support.
