Do you still breastfeed your kids when you are sick? Maybe this is a silly question, but I'd love to know what you all do. I'm running just a low fever and am still functioning so I think it seems silly for me to pump instead of feeding her.

Yes absolutely. Once I had a horrible stomach bug and was feverish enough that I don't remember the day, so I told my husband to take the baby and bring him to me every few hours or when he seemed hungry. Other than that I've always just managed childcare and breastfeeding as usual when ill.

Yes, always. I even BFed when I had the stomach bug. I basically tossed him into his crib and ran away to barf. It was horrible but I didn't want anything to affect my supply.

Yes. I've read it's the best because your body is busy fighting the cold and you'll pass those antibodies onto the baby.

Yes and it's 1000 times easier to nurse went to pump all sick. Have your husband bring the baby to you come back in 15 minutes to pick the baby up You stay in bed.

I breastfed my son even when I had a really bad strep throat. DH wasn't able to take time off work that week, and so DS and I stayed in bed for a few days, just nursing and sleeping. He never got sick, even though I was really contagious. As @Miss Ariel said, you are already producing anti-bodies, so it is the best method to prevent your LO from getting sick.

Yes, especially when sick because it helps them fight it. My LO never caught anything from me when I BF including norovirus and flu.

Yes, definitely. Even with food poisoning (thank God for Google at 2am). Better than pumping or being enjorged, but still totally sucks.

Yep, and neither of my kids have caught my illness while doing it. Hope you feel better!

Yes definitely! You can pretty much sleep and breastfeed while lying down on your side so it's much easier than pumping. Plus I worry about touching all the pump pieces with my germy hands

Neither of my kids really took bottles so I didn't have much choice. But like others already said, they got antibodies from me and never got very sick from me.

@agold: yep. I've nursed through a nasty throw up bug. We both were miserable and my supply dropped like crazy. My ped told me to drink as many liquids as possible and keep the baby on my boob.

Oh yes I would even try to nurse extra to pass on all the antibodies!

Thank you so much, girls! These are all great responses. You are all the best!
