I think it's more common for flanges to be too big than too small, but I'm not 100% on that. All I know is nursing at the beginning was PAINFUL- I cracked and bled, and cried each time LO latched (ended up being because of tongue and lip ties). What helped me so much was putting small squares of plastic wrap over lanolin cream on my nipples, after every single feed. Seriously, I almost stopped nursing before I did that, but the plastic kept the lanolin on there and let me heal properly. In the case it is your pump, do you need to pump this early, or can you get a little more settled in with nursing first? Good luck, mama, I hope you feel better soon!

The vinegar solution is great for relieving pain. It got me through the weekend before I could get ahold of the midwives to call a prescription in. I hope it isn't thrush.

@daniellemybelle: My LC said that if you see a white line where the nipple comes out from the areaola (sp?) , then it's too small.
