This R's first winter since starting to go on the playground.
1) Do you just leave a jacket/hat/mittens there?
2) What is the best kind of jacket to get?

I got a light jacket with a good from old navy for fall, and for winter a more fleeced heavy jacket with a good from Zulily. This year I'll look into something NF or Patagonia.

I will probably leave a bag with a scarf/mittens/hat at the daycare like i do her swim stuff
As for coat, this past winter our daycare sent out lots of emails regarding lost/stolen/mistakenly taken coats. I wouldnt buy anything too precious or pricy.

When I worked at a daycare parents just brought the kids in with the coat/hat/gloves they wanted them to wear and we just put those back on them when we went outside. Some opted to leave a light jacket at all times in their cubby. I agree with @Chillybear: to not get anything too expensive, and definitely put their name in it.

My favorite coats for kids are the Lands End 3 in 1 coats, they have a liner that you can zip out and they have "grow with you" sleeves. I write my son's name in the coat and since I get it at the end of year clearance for the following year, I buy two (sounds insane, but my son is messy and sometimes I have to put another coat in rotation).

@looch: I don't think that is insane at all. Kids ruin stuff fast!

We wear jacket/mittens/hat back and forth everyday because she needs to have them on between the car and daycare.
We also keep a spare pair of boots, gloves/mittens and hat at school all the time because they still take the kids out in winter and their stuff can get wet from the snow.
As for brands, LO’s best coats have been NorthFace and LL Bean. I really like the LL Bean kids gloves and boots, too. We’ve also done cheap ones from Gymboree, which held up fine. We live in Maine, so we deal with serious snow/ice/cold!

We had a separate winter coat that we would just bring everyday for her to wear since it was a puffy one not recommended for carseat wear.

We left a snowsuit there last winter and she just wore her regular coat (which we left there during the day) to and from daycare (we walk, so no issues with the carseat). We generally didn't have time after daycare pickup to go out in the snow, and we had a bunting on our stroller, so we just left the snowsuit there. If we needed it for the weekend, we just brought it home on Fridays.

@Smurfette: I always had a fleece, mittens, and a hat at daycare for LO. The fleece was from Columbia. I really liked it. It was warm, not too bulky, and easy to clean.

@sunny: That is my concern. I think she would need something heavier that she can't wear in the car.

We are in Texas. I'd put her in an Old Navy fleece and take a warmer jacket along/ leave at school. It has to be over 40 for them to go out. I skipped mittens, she won't leave them on.

Daycare suggests that we leave boots, pants, hat, gloves, mittens there. I usually draped his 3-in-1 CP coat over him in the car and put it on when he got out of the car seat.
