How do you defrost your baby food? So far what I do is I take a few cubes out of the freezer and defrost them overnight in the 4oz canning jars I bought for her. Then I heat up the food in her bottle warmer. The ony thing is that I can only fit 2 cubes in the jar, because of the shape of the cubes. I use the mumi and bubi ice trays so the cubes are really a half moon shape. SO now I have to use two jars to defrost 3 cubes of food. But once its defrosted I can fit 4 cubes in the jar. Because of this I am starting to prefer freezing the food directly in the jar. But ofcourse I dont have enough jars or freezer space to freeze my entire batch in jars

We froze in ice cube trays.
If possible, I would put enough in the fridge to defrost that we would use within a 3 day period (so 9 cubes, 3 per day) and then once defrosted put into the feeding jars.

I actually put a little organic brown rice cereal (w/probiotics) to my frozen ice cubed food so I actually put it in a bowl and put some hot water (I have one of those hot water pots that's always hot) over it and within minutes it gets soft enough for me to crush and then to add more hot water and then organic brown rice cereal to thicken it up. I like to add the brown rice cereal b/c I think the probitiocs helps keep his stools soft.

@Thehistoryofus: so you defrost an entire tray at a time?@stiffaknee: my baby food has breastmilk in it, so I dont want to use the microwave. I want to avoid using the microwave for any of LO's food. In the long run I hope to stop using it for my food too

@Mrsbells: If you think you'll use a full tray.
We would freeze in ice cube trays, then once hard dump them into zip lock bags and keep frozen. Then we would pull out a handful of cubes and put in the fridge in a larger container until they were soft enough that we could put into single portions for her. We then heated up the single portions (usually by setting the bowl in hot water).

@Mrsbells: I froze some of my breast milk into cubes to mix with purees. To defrost I did kind of water bath method. I used a larger glass pyrex to hold hot water (using water heater) and put a smaller glass bowl into the hot water to hold the cubes and then I would stir. It took a while, though, but I never really came up with a better system.

@Thehistoryofus: Oh ok I get it. That makes sense. yeah I also pop out ofthe trays and then store in zip lock bags too. I guess I just need a bigger jar to fit in all the cubes in the fridge
@T-Mom: Yeah it does take a while which it why I try to take them out the night before or first thing in the morning.

I just defrost in the microwave before he eats. Sometimes it is too hot to eat right away, but we just play for a few more minutes while Mommy frantically blows on all the food.
