Maybe another doctor, even though they're not the "best" might be a better fit for you? My RE was pretty flexible and usually gave us options; sometimes I had to ask her what she would recommend because there were pluses and minuses to both courses of treatment.

I also find it weird that your doctor doesn't want to start with oral meds. Have you been on them before? If you want to push back, I would highly recommend Femara. I have incredibly stubborn ovaries and Femara worked much better for me than Clomid. Also, this past cycle (that worked!) I did what's called a combination cycle - started with Femara and then did a few days of Gonal-f. It was less expensive and MUCH less monitoring than purely doing injectables.

From my experience, I would do a Femara cycle first and see how you respond, and then when you know what dose, if you need additional cycles, try combination with injectables instead of jumping straight to all injectables. If you want any more info, let me know :).

If I disagreed, I'd probably switch if that was an option. It's such a difficult process that you need to have faith in your doc. But definitely do what you think is right or ask him why he is pushing injectibles.

My doc didn't like to do injectibles unless really necessary since they are expensive and harder to control outcomes for (that's how Kate got her 6).

We had kind of the opposite experience and wanted to move along faster then our RE typically recommends. We were unexplained, tired of waiting, and wanted to do whatever gave us the best odds. But I've heard so many others being pressured, that I so value that our clinic was always more conservative and let us drive the train (within reason, of course).

@Mrs Green Grass: I always wondered how Kate wound up with 6! I had heard that she had a cancelled IUI but they had sex anyway, against the advice of her RE, but I didn't know what kind of meds she was on.

@Mrs. Polish: my RE was fabulous and is truly my unborn child's honorary grandfather! I went to school with one of his sons from late elementary to high school. He knew I was scared of IVF with all of the injections and gave us the chance to try Clomid/IUI first even though he knew the odds weren't good for us. He also didn't push us into IVF but gave his opinion when I asked for it. He is one of the top IVF doctors in my area.

I would probably start looking for a new RE if I were in your situation. Did your RE explain why he doesn't want you to try oral meds first?
