@bluestriped bee: I was so sad when they stopped serving the lemon pie! It was my favorite dessert.

Yes, it has a drive thru window. Chipolte I do not consider fast food.

If you can be fed within 5 minutes, it's "fast food" to me, no matter what it is.

@wheres_c: lucky!! You're across the pond though, right?

This is hilarious. I get back from a conference call and have so many responses. It's a Chick Fil A vs Panera war!
So, okay. I know that Chick Fil A is fast food. But when I think of feeding LO fast food, I think of McDonald's or Wendy's. I just don't think of Chick Fil A! I feel guilty if I give LO McDonalds but I don't feel guilty about Chick Fil A at all.
I think it must be the type of food (and price point) that makes it fast food more than the type of restaurant. Chick Fil A has better/more service than Panera! You pay at the counter (or in the drive through) for both but at Chick Fil A they bring your food to your table and bring you refills. Plus at Chick Fil A if they aren't busy they will usually clear your table for you.
Panera is much more "DIY"! They don't bring you your food, or refills, or clear your table. In fact, you have to fill your own drink to start with! Someone mentioned the freshness of their food - I don't think the food is made fresh at Panera all of the time? A lot of their sandwiches come pre-made and frozen and are just heated up. And our Panera has a drive thru, too!
Still, I probably would consider Chick Fil A more on the fast food side of the continuum than Panera just because it is fried food. And someone made the good point of serving things in bags rather than on reusable plates with real silverware.
#panerachickfilawar haha!
@PurplePeony: I don't like their politics, but man I love their food, and it is such a great place to go with kids! They make it so easy.
@Mrs D: I consider it amazing too!
@Torchwood: @Mae: "Quick service"/"fast casual"? As I said above, they bring your food to your table and bring you refills. I just really like the service and the food seems better than other fast food spots.
@bluestriped bee: Thanks for the insider info!

@daniellemybelle: eh, that's more of a serve yourself bar to me. Because you then have to get in line and pay. It's not exactly quick. I don't necessarily think fast food equals junk, though. It's just....fast

@daniellemybelle: I forgot they bring your food and stuff now. It always throws me since they didn't used to. I think I still consider it fast food though.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I believe I saw Panera dressing in the grocery store.
Any thing with a drive thru is fast food, but CFA is better quality. We always go there or PDQ.

Yes - but so incredibly good. DH actually said this morning that CFA does NOT count against the food budget we're addicted.....

I consider it fast food because they have a drive-through and it can be easily consumed while driving. We have several restaurants around here that have drive-throughs, but it would be pretty hard to eat the food in the car so they fall in more of the quick-serve category for me. Inside you order at the counter and pick up food at another one.
@daniellemybelle: It probably depends on your Panera Bread. One of the ones I frequent will brings the food to you and buses the tables. They don't have buzzers, they give you a number.

I feel zero guilt over the occasional fast food, no matter the source. Some days it's that or starve.
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime:I bought their balsalmic salad dressing at Target I think

@FancyGem: @lemondrop: thanks scouts! I definitely didn't see it at Publix, but I'll check out Target.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: I believe I've seen it in the refrigerated section, near the bagged salads and greens, as opposed to in an aisle with the rest of the salad dressings. I hope you can find it!

yes!
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: they have bottled Panera salad dressing at the Targets in my area!

I don't eat at CFA (politics), but I do consider it fast food. Like others, I think the drive-through window is the clincher (though there is a local restaurant with a drive-through that I do not consider fast food, but they are much smaller and make everything from scratch).
I also think of Panera as fast food - if you prepare anything you serve me in a microwave, I consider that fast food.

Its fast food, for sure.
But man, is it delicious. I wish they'd come to Canada!

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Awesome! I love their Fiji Apple dressing. I made a copy-cat version and it was just okay.
