We started solids last month and find that making babyfood is alot cheaper than buying premade food. And it just seems fresher too.

We do; it's just easier for us. We do have jarred food we keep in the diaper bag, though.

I made my LO's food. I also found it to be cheaper, and I just liked knowing exactly what she was eating. I would just make a big batch about once a month and freeze it.

yup!! I have severe mommy guilt if I don't. I've only ever bought him a pouch (and it was Organic!) twice.
When I know we'll be out, I make extra and have little storage cups for him and a cooler.

Yes, and it's so easy to do too especially since we made them in large batches!

I did a few times but I mostly send jars of Earth Organics to daycare and she eats what we eat at home.

He's still too little for solids, but I plan to make my own baby food...I'm actually really looking forward to doing it!

We do too and I was pleasantly surprised with how easy it's been. My MIL went crazy and bought us a pile of jars though so she's had some jarred food. I plan to keep a few on hand for on the go, but will likely end up donating the rest.

LO starts solids tomorrow! I was gifted a Baby Bullet, so I do plan to make my own food, but I may buy some jars of Earth's Best to keep on hand as a back-up.

I didn't mind buying but was very cautious. We mostly made our own.

Yes we just started solids and I make her food with the baby bullet ! I do however buy a jar of a new type of food to see if she likes it before I buy/make/store a bunch that he may not like just yet. (Learned after I made about 12 servings of applesauce and she hated it)

Yep, it's so easy! I find the immersion blender a lot quicker and easier to clean than my magic bullet. One batch will last a few days.

Yup! I try to go for local in season produce that's minimally sprayed. Ie pest management system.
So far I have butternut squash, acorn squash, carrots & peaches.
@caffeinated: I find the immersion blender sooo easy too! I have way too much kitchen gadgets to go buy more. ;P

I do a combo. I love using the pouches though and my LO really likes eating out of them!

Did it and loved it. I eventually got into the pouches just for ease of transport, and at 13 months I still keep some around in the diaper bag for an easy snack. I loved making babyfood, though. So many fun choices and combinations.

@regberadaisy: haha i'm doing my best to downsize all the kitchen gadgetry. I was tempted to get the beaba but thought i'd see how the multi-step route worked for us. So far so good!

@caffeinated: @regberadaisy: the immersion blender has been my favorite too!! But there are a few foods it didn't do well - like beets.

@Coco Bee: i find that adding water or olive oil helps blend the items a lot better. i haven't given LO beets yet though!

We haven't started yet, but I think I will try. I'll probably also keep a few jars/pouches on hand as back-up, though.

I didn't intend to but I often do now. I thought I was too lazy to make them and planned to go 100% purchased purees but then I cook things and want him to eat the same stuff as us (obviously simpler for now)--so I just add some pumped milk and blend!

Haven't had the baby yet, but we will definitely be making our own baby food. I love that we can pick exactly what goes into the food and can use breast milk.

@Coco Bee @caffeinated @regberadaisy : good call on the immersion blender..will try using ours this weekend for our next batch, we have been using our food processor and it's a pain to clean!

my LO just started solids, and I've already made and froze a bunch of purees - love the magic bullet so easy and cheap!!

I do and love it do far! It's much cheaper than store bought (a lot more than I thought) and really isn't too time consuming. I make fresh batches of different foods every two weeks and have a continuous rotation in the freezer - at any given time I probably have about 3 weeks worth on hand.
I agree with PP that immersion blender is the way to go for easy clean up! Just steam in pot and use that same pot to blend - less to wash.

Yes and it's super easy! I spend a couple hours once a month peeling, cooking, food processing and freezing. It's really that simple and SO inexpensive! I have the Baby Bullet and the storage freezer and little 2 oz bullet containers--love them.

We haven't started solids yet but I plan to give it a shot! The more fresh veggies and fruits I can give her, the better. I'm sure I'll still used pouch/jar items now and then, but I'm hoping I can manage to make it all.
