I have seen 2 lactation consultants at the hospital and they have different opinions on whether I should offer both breasts in a feeding session.
What about you? Do you always offer both?

It's really up to you and your baby. For the first few weeks she was only taking one side but she was eating every two hours (three hours max) around the clock. Once she hit her first growth spurt we started offering both sides an that helped fill her up more. Your body is pretty amazing. It will do whatever your baby needs.

I didn't at first but after the first month or so I did. It helped keep my milk supply up but I know some moms have no problem with only offering one side per feeding.

Still usually only do one at almost 10 months. Rarely at bedtime or first thing in the morning he will nurse for a long time so I'll offer the other. I do have a bit of an oversupply though.

i used to because i was so afraid of mastitis/clogged ducts, but now i only offer one to make sure olive is getting the rich hindmilk. if your baby gets too much foremilk, it's harder for her tummy to digest and can cause green poops with specks of blood in it.
i think you should offer the second one only if your baby has drained the first and wants more. i was always told to offer both, so this is something i learned only recently!
olive seems perfectly happy with just one side, but i also worked very hard to increase my supply via supplements and pumping the first two months, so i have a decent supply.

After the first 4 weeks, I always offered both sides. LO seemed happy with it and steadily gained weight. I had a fairly abundant milk supply so both sides was more comfortable for me.

I offered 1 side for many months. I've tried both sides with each milestone, but had LO split up sufficiently. I've only started both breast recently -- LO was 8mths.
