If they do, how often do they serve it? I hate that my daughter's daycare serves juice. I have bad teeth and I worry that having juice all the time will lead to bad teeth. I'm the mom that asks her teachers not to give it to her all the time. Ha.

Water for snacks and milk for lunch. Parents can bring in juice for holiday parties.

I might sound crazy here but I actually looked for a preschool (we have a nanny for childcare and she knows not to give them juice) where juice was not an option. I don't allow our kids to have juice unless we are at a birthday party or at a friends house and it's offered. DS preschool only offers water. It sometimes drives DH nuts but I feel like it's a special treat and not something they need to have on a regular basis.

Ours serves it with morning snack every day but it's cut with water, and in MA they have to brush their teeth after snack so it doesn't bother me!

A few days a week - if fruit is part of snack they get water - otherwise they get juice
Doesn't bother me since at home we only drink water or milk

Juice is only for parties/special occasions! Otherwise, it's water or milk.

Once a week with their PM snacks and if it's brought in for parties. I ask them to cut with water so I'm OK with that.

they used to serve it cut with water, but i asked them to just give him water instead and they complied. however i think the daycare doesn't serve it anymore. huh, i should check.

Not that I have ever seen on the daily sheet. I don't think my LO likes juice/knows what it is so I doubt he would want it. He is obsessed with milk!

We provide food/drinks right now so she wouldn't get juice unless we bring it.

I know they serve it at least 3-4 times a day, but I send all of her snacks (they don't have healthy snacks) so she doesn't get the juice. I think if they are having a party, she will get served juice.

The do about once a week. It doesn't bother me. She drinks juice every morning with her breakfast and I don't cut it with water.
cantaloupe / 6885 posts
No, they just offer water. If we want to send in another drink (milk or juice) we can

No, they only offer water.
Our center doesn't provide any food, so I wouldn't expect them to offer juice or milk.

I have seen it served once or twice in the 2.5 yrs we've been there...

DS' daycare does not, and DD's preschool doesn't serve food. DD's old daycare served juice a lot (juice = fruit serving) but ultimately it didn't matter because she dislikes juice.

They either have apple juice or milk for snack or lunch, if they have one for snack they have the other with lunch. They offer a dixie cup too each 2 year old.

She's in 3 day a week preschool and they only serve water. Even at parties.

Yes, every day. It makes me crazy. People do not hate juice here like in the US though.
pomelo / 5326 posts
No they don't have juice at daycare. Just water during the day and milk at lunch. I'm super happy with this as we don't serve juice at home.
pineapple / 12053 posts
not really sure actually! i think it's mostly water and milk!

I'm pretty sure they only give the kids milk and water, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's juice occasionally for special events. It doesn't really bother me though, we even serve juice at home!

Ours gives dilute juice with snack about twice per week. I'm not a big fan of juice but since it's a small infrequent amount and we don't give any at home, I don't really care.

LO's future preschool does not serve juice. They do water and a morning snack of fresh fruit. I'll pack her lunch and send milk.
However, I am not against juice. She has a Honest juice pouch (very watered down, no added sweeteners, less grams of sugar and calories than 100% juice) almost every day. At restaurants I will order diluted juice but if all they have is juice boxes she can have that.

Juice for parties so only a few times a year.
clementine / 778 posts
Once a day at most, but not everyday. But, we let DS drink juice (Honest Juice boxes) at home, so it isn't a big deal for us.

1-2 a week, I think. It doesn't bother me because we have none at home.

Juice isn't served unless a parent volunteer brings in juice for the holiday parties. Water is served for snack time 5 days a week. LO attends half day so she comes home for lunch except on Fridays she stays bc it's pizza day at school. We can send her with whatever we want her to drink but opt to have her buy milk those days

With snack every morning. I'm kind of shocked about that. It's small cups of that diluted "motts for tots" stuff, but still.....

They get juice once a week, per their state nutrition licensing mandates or whatever. I'm actually really happy with Kinder Care's food and nutrition plans for the kids.
wonderful clementine / 24134 posts
Only if a parent volunteers to bring it in. I love our new daycare and families so much more than our last. Serving Hi-C to 2 year olds is crazy to me. Now if a parent brings something in more than likely its actual juice.

There is punch at the Christmas party. Otherwise it's just milk or water with snack and whatever you provide for lunch. Some schools that we toured did offer juice instead of milk.

I voted "yes, every day" but want to clarify:
1) it's not childcare per se, but he will be attending preschool in the fall and on my tour they mentioned watered down juice at snack time. It actually did surprise me since he's only had juice twice and both times at birthday parties. I just assumed water would be offered.
I think they are aware that juice is "controversial" because she said it is very watered down. And once they finish the first cup all they get is water after.
2) I said "every day" but it's actually every day he's there...which will only be twice per week.
I'm not thrilled with it. But because it's only twice per week I'm not going to make a stink. I also don't want to be "that mom" right out the gate.
But I do plan on asking what makes them want to offer it. I'm just curious. I'd be less surprised if it was an in home daycare run by an older generation. For example, my nanny who is 61 wanted to give him juice (and chocolate milk) around a year. If I hadn't said no she would be giving it to him daily. And she still will mention it on occasion (very passively) and I have to keep reinforcing it. I think in her generation it wasn't a bad thing.
ETA: I'm not super anti juice, if it's what's offered at a party or someone's home it's fine. I guess I was just surprised a school offers it.
