When did you stop the feed every 2-3 hrs and just start following your baby's cues? LO wakes up around that time frame but if he is napping well I sure hate to wake him !
That won't affect my supply will it ??

Because i was breastfeeding exclusively in the beginning I would feed on demand, but now at 9 months I feed her on schedule because she never really shows any signs of being hungry unless she sees me eating then she starts chewing

I never really fed on demand, even now at 13 weeks I feed her between 3-3.5 hours throughout the day. When she was younger, if she was hungry before the three hours I would feed her of course, but if she was napping and it was around 3-3.5 hours I would wake her up. This way I could ensure that she was getting all her milk needed during the day so she wouldn't need to feed at night. My LO was sleeping through the night at 4 weeks or so.

I've been feeding on demand since 2 weeks. If she sleeps for a long time and my breasts feel full, I pump and either save it or give it to her in a bottle when she wakes up.

@LemonLong: i was wondering how it would affect his sleeping! right now he's doing great - not through the night- but I'm only up a time or two in the night so I don't want to mess that up!
@coruscations: good idea with the pumping. Its time for him to feed now and i feel FULL but he is snoozing!

I wake her if it has been 3 hours since the start of her last during the day. Obviously feed her if she wakes up before that and is hungry. It's been working for us so far!

I really didn't go off of the every 2-3 hours thing until 3 months or so. Right now, it coincides with when he's last eaten and slept at daycare, usually after that, it's bedtime, so we try to fill up the tank to get him to sleep, then with a few wakeups.

I fed on demand. Still do. If he fusses or cries the first thing i do is put him to breast.

My daughter is very laid back, so she never really showed any strong hunger cues until she was starving. For that reason I always just fed on a 3-hour schedule during the day. Still do, actually. It works well for us.

I fed on demand until his 3 month checkup when he wasn't gaining enough weight and dropped several percentiles in weight. The doctor said he was probably snacking all day (I would feed him whenever he started fussing/looked hungry, which was every 2 hours or so, sometimes less), and that I should start feeding him every 3 hours so he would eat a full meal each time he ate.
I haven't been back to weigh him yet, but it seems to be working - he eats a lot more during each feeding I think, and only gets hungry every 3-4 hours now.
