DS used to want to eat every 2 hours. we found out he had reflux, once he was on medicine he eats every 3-4 hours(7 oz he's 16 lbs at 4 months). have you tried changing formula? we went through 3 different kinds before it didn't upset his stomach(gas). good luck!

What does your ped say about the spitting up? Is your LO gaining weight at a rate that your ped feels is okay?

It could be the formula is causing issues, what kinds are you using? We had good luck with Gerber Good Start.

@babynumber1: we use gerber good start - supposedly breaks down the proteins so it's easier to digest. it also has probiotics.

would you be open to using a pacifier? maybe she just wants to suck?

Yes I would try a different nipple or bottle and see if she is any better. The playtex ventaire bottles are great.

@babynumber1: some babies also are just 'spitters'. my mom had 3 and she said i was the only one that spit up and she said sometimes i'd give back the whole bottle! my son is the same way. if the doc was concerned about the spitting up i'm sure they'd say something, but if you're concerned take her back in. but i would try different formula and/or bottles to see if that helps. also, maybe try to give a little more formula to see if she takes it and waits longer between feedings. start by giving an extra ounce or so.

At 16 weeks, my son was eating 4oz every 2-3 hours. He had terrible reflux and spit-up, both on breast and formula, though it was definitely worse on formula. After trying Similac Advance and Enfamil AR, we switched to Alimentum Ready to Feed, and it has been so much better. He also gets 1/2 teaspoon of rice cereal per oz added to help with the spit up and it has been a life changer at this point. He was gaining weight fine, but his reflux was really painful, so we had to keep trying to find a solution.

@babynumber1: my DD spits up A LOT! We use similac advance. Ped said switching probably wouldnt help and will go away when we introduce more solids. I was even concerned about how much she spits up but ped said it was normal and some babies spit up more than others. Tried Zantac and rice cereal, burpin every ounce, feeding upright, slow nipples etc.... Nothing helped. She doesn't complain so I'm sure she's fine I think it's just a Normal FTM worry. DD is 4.5 months and eats 4-6 oz every 2 hours. 7 bottles a day.

There's a formula with how much to feed your LO formula. It's (2.5 ounces X LO's weight) / (how many times you feed her in a day). I followed that with my oldest after I stopped nursing him and it worked well.

I have no advice on spit up b/c he was drinking Alimentum due to dairy and soy protein allergies.

Do you feed your LO with them sitting upright? And keep them sitting upright for 20-30 minutes after eating? That might help with the spit-up issue.

Be careful about switching formulas too often, it can upset their systems to switch formulas; so some symptoms may develop that are from the switching, not the formula itself. Unless she is vomiting a lot (not just spitting up), our ped said it’s unlikely to be a real milk protein intolerance (we went through this with our LO too). The Gentlease formula that you are using is a lower milk-protein content than other milk-based formulas.

As for feedings/spacing out feedings – can you just give her more formula? Does she really forcefully spit out the nipple after the smaller amounts, every time?
