I want to start a freezer stash, but I'm wondering how much milk I should freeze in each bag? I've been pumping between 2.5-4 oz during each pump session. I'm not sure how much he'll be eating at once in the coming months. What do you do?

The max I froze in one bag was 6 oz so if you pump 4 oz I'd freeze that. I had an oversupply issue so towards the end of pumping when LO was starting on purees, I would freeze 1 oz bags to use to thin out homemade purees.

I would freeze in smaller bags (like 2-3 oz)...I would always rather have to defrost more bags than waste any!

I EP and have a huge stash. I freeze in 6 oz. portions bc it's easier for me to keep track of and I'm too cheap to buy more bags. I've never had a problem with LO finishing a bottle, but she's completely bottle fed.

I agree with @Hilsy85 and would do mostly smaller portions (2-3oz) with a few larger portions too (although I personally wouldn't freeze more than 6oz in a bag).

I freeze 6 oz portions. I froze 4 for the first few weeks.

I do the same as @Hilsy85: and @MrsLipgloss: - I freeze in 2 and 3 oz portions. That way I can make any size bottle with frozen milk. Also sometimes the nanny will use a frozen bag with fresh milk to make the right size bottle, so it's nice to have small portions of milk.

I froze 5oz baga in the beginning. Now I do 4 oz bags. By the time I started using freezer stash ds was taking in 5 oz each session. Now he is eating solids n takes in a lil less!

In the beginning I froze some small bags, ~2 oz. once we introduced a bottle and got an idea of how much he drank from one I froze in 4 oz portions and eventually 6 oz portions later on.

I freeze in random amounts based on what I pumped that day. Totally out of laziness. Anywhere from 1.5 at the lowest (beginning of my pumping journey) to 4 oz at the max. It works for me. I didn't want to stress over specific amounts.

I'm doing 2-3 oz portions right now. I'm scared if I freeze more that it will go to waste.

I usually freeze the portion size I feed her, although I never froze more than 5oz. Right now she she can drink 6oz so I'll just top it off with some fresh milk.

@Pepper: I think it really depends on how big of a stash you plan on making. I truly can't imagine having a freezer full of 2-3 oz bags.. And I can't imagine portioning out and freezing that many bags either.

Great tips! I think I'll try making a mix of 2-3 oz bags as well as some larger bags for when he's eating a lot more.
