Last night I couldn't get more than 3oz at a time when I would pump, even waiting 3 hours between sessions.. This morning I left LO with about 11-12 oz at 4:30AM, not sure what time she woke up because that's when I left. I will be home around 4:30PM this afternoon. She has been eating a lot, and her morning bottle is usually 5oz. Do you think her grandma (is watching her today) will be able to stretch out the rest of that milk throughout the day? I do not want her to have ANY formula but, she has to eat.....I don't know what to do.

@Mommytotwois: how many ounces total does she usually get in a day?
Any chance of buzzing home during lunch to nurse? But then that might decrease her pump output for tomorrow? -
@locavore_mama: Yeah I think I will go home around 12:00.. I work 30 miles away from home but I really want her to be able to nurse and I can bring probably 4-5 ounces of pumped milk when I go. I will just need to really pump like crazy all of today and tonight for tomorrow. I meant to stick that in the original post.
And normally I would leave anywhere between 14 and 18oz

@Mommytotwois: oh boo that sucks that you live that far. But the alternative would be to give formula. OR if you work through lunch can you leave an hour early??

how often does she usually and and how much (or do you usually nurse)? if she drinks 5 oz of the 12 oz, i'm not sure 7 oz can last 12 hours. sounds like you have to decide whether you want to take the chance of her being hungry and making up for it at night, or give her some formula to supplement.
ETA: oh bringing home some at lunch sounds like a good plan!

I think if you do go home to nurse, she'll probably be all set for the day.
Do you have a freezer stash? Maybe you can use some of that for tomorrow if you're not able to pump enough, and then you won't be as stressed and can get back on track?
I'm guessing, since you said she's been eating more lately, that she just drained you more than normal, which is why you haven't been able to pump as much. This happens to me sometimes with Xander where he'll eat a ton and then my output's not as good for my first couple sessions of the day.

@locavore_mama: Lunch is optional where I work, so I usually just eat at my desk and leave at the same time every day. I think I will just take an hour or so to bring her some milk. If I were to supplement with formula, could I mix a couple of ounces of formula with BM? I just don't want it to upset her stomach, and have it become a regular thing, that is what happened with DD2 and I still am mad about it!

@Adira: I think I will go home and nurse..I mean I really don't want to supplement but I also don't want her crying and upset all day because she is hungry..
I don't have a freezer stash....I need to start one but I work so much so all the milk I pump just goes to the next day for her. I need to start MAKING time to pump more.
I couldn't beleive I could only pump 3oz last night and this morning at 4AM........I've always been a 6-8oz'er. -
@Mommytotwois: yup, you certainly can. Mix as little or as much as you want. Or when we supplemented we told her teachers to only mix a bottle of JUST formula if there was no more bm. So you can have your mom do that too. If it's the end of the day and there's no more bm and she's still hungry to offer formula.
But mixing might be better I think for tummy issues or if you think she might reject the taste?ETA: a lot of pumping moms on here swear you get your best output around 1-2am. So you can try that??

@edelweiss: She usually has between 14 and 18oz to last her all day, and when I get home she usually has about 4oz left, and I nurse probably once an hour when I am home with her. Except during the night, she STTN with us.

@Mommytotwois: Do you think you might have a fever or coming down with something? That always affects my output too. And I hear you about not wanting to supplement - I know that I'm just stubborn about it now, but I've gotten to a point where I feel like I've made it so far, I want to keep going!
It will SUCK, but maybe you could pump in the middle of the night a few times to get some extra ounces for tomorrow? And what about pumping after you nurse? You might only get a little out, but it's better than nothing? And it'll signal your body to make some more milk!

@locavore_mama: Well I just emailed DH to make a bottle of 6oz of formula before he leaves for work and to let his grandma know that if she is out of food before 12:00 give her some of that, but I will be home around 12:30.
I am going to try that! I've seen those couple golden hours everywhere I have read about pumping so I am going to do that.

@Adira: Yesterday I took a nap with DD2 for almost two hours, and woke up and instantly told DH "I feel like crap". So possibly but I don't have any symptoms besides a "blah" feeling throughout my body.
I am going to start pumping in the middle of the night....I really need to have more milk available. I'm going to pump more often during the day and when I am with her..I know pumping on one side and nursing on the other works well for me too.

@locavore_mama: I just saw your water comment too- I will!!! I have not been drinking as much as I used to this week......I always made sure to drink about a gallon during my work day. I need to get back into the habit.

Thank you so much for all of your help! I'm just panicking about supplementing. I think going home and nursing around lunch time will be best, and I can bring pumped milk with me.

@Mommytotwois: I would also tell whoever is watching her to try to stretch out the milk as much as possible, so that you won't be totally messed up for tomorrow! Maybe suggest they offer less in each bottle and see if she can still go however hours she normally can go. Good luck to you!

Someone is farther than I am from my house and can pick up milk from me on their way home and drop it off at my house! I am so relieved! Also I was able to pump 6oz in about 15 minutes! Yay
