Too many high chairs out there... which should I get? I want something easy to clean, that doesn't take up a ton of space, can be stored away easily. It looks like tons of them do this though so I don't really see the benefit of one over the other. Should I just get the cheapy one from Ikea? Is there a need for anything fancier/expensive? What about high chair vs a chair that attaches to a regular chair... is one better over the other? Anyone have a chair they absolutely love and recommend? Thanks!

We have the IKEA chair with the blowup cushion and canvas cover. It's going through our second kid and going strong. DS1 used his until almost 2 when he kept asking to sit in a real chair. We also have the FP booster chair and I can't recommend it enough especially for travel. My boys are super squirmy and can get out of those restaurant high chairs (and they started to try at 6 months) but stay nicely seated in the booster.

We splurged for the Tripp trapp one and we like it. Baby 2 is in it now.

We didn't have a lot of space so we had one that attached to the table. The seat part was fabric and was removable and could go in the washer. We used that until she was probably 2. Then we had an IKEA chair for kids. Just a chair but it was small and high so LO sat right at the table without a booster or anything.

We have three Tripp Trapps. I can't speak highly enough about them. They take up no more space than a regular chair, easy to clean, and adaptable for multiple ages. My four year old still uses hers at every meal.
We also had the cheapy IKEA one and I HATED it. It takes up a ton of space is top heavy and flimsy. I was constantly kicking the legs because they disappeared into the floor and stood out really far from the chair part. The straps come loose easily and my Houdinis could escape them easily. Last thing I need was an unsecured baby standing up in an easily tippable high chair. -
We love our Tripp Trapp. It looks and feels like a regular piece of furniture and grows with your kid (in fact, DH sometimes sits on it now that the baby seat is off). It doesn't take up any more space than a small regular chair.

I like the fisher price booster as well. Depends on what kind of chairs you have already. I use it on our wood barstool chairs. When he gets older I will put it on on dining room chair. I can also travel with it which is nice.

Yes, its the Antilop chair but you can buy a blow-up cushion seat pad for it with a washable canvas cover. My boys are really skinny, so it made them feel a bit more snug in the seat.

Also, people generally have a love/hate reaction to the Ikea seat. They either hate it or love it and I figured I would try the $15 option first and if I hated it, I would go for the Tripp Trapp (which with all the accessories was going to run like $300). Luckily my kid liked the Ikea chair. We initially bought the FP booster for a trip and ended up liking it so much we bought one for every grandparent's house and keep one in our car at all times.

I let DH decide between the Ikea and the Oxo Tot. We use a hand held vacuum to clean and disinfectant wipes. The tray has not stained yet. We probably move it around more than it is designed for, but it's held up with the constant re positioning around the kitchen and family room.

I love our OXo sprout. It's been used multiple times a day for over 3 years and it looks as good as new.

I have a free standing high chair and I hate it. It takes up way too much space. I wish I would have gotten a Graco Swivi Seat that attaches to a chair.

I have a tripp trapp, used from age 2, and a boon flair used for baby years. The boon isn't perfect, but i like that it is tall and moves on wheels.

We have the NZ version of the IKEA and it does the job, we also have a Phil & Ted's clip on chair on our breakfast bar.

have any of yall had this stinky tripp trapp experience? or can any of yall speak to how easy the tripp trappr or antilop is to clean? I was thinking of going your route gingerbebe, and trying the cheapo to see if I hated it first

Oxo Tot Sprout. It's been used every day for 3+ years and still looks brand new. We move it around frequently, and have even thrown it in the back of the car for trips. Our second is about to start using it--so glad we don't need another chair!

We have the IKEA one, a FP space saver type on, and a chicco hook on one.
We had the chicco 360 hook on chair when we didn't have a table, on a kitchen island with breakfast bar. It serves its purpose, took up very little space. I found it super annoying to clean, though the seat part could go in the wash, it was just annoying to take it off and put back on. But the seat itself just got grody, too many crevices where food could get stuck.
The FP one we have (Fisher-Price Healthy Care Deluxe Booster Seat, Brown/Tan https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CSAWJPO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_JalOybVDXVM1E) is really handy, easy to clean, and I like that it just attaches to a regular dining chair. My 3.5 yo still sits in it at the table. It's not ideal for a little infant though- I felt like it really needs the tray to keep them secure, even with the straps. But I do like it a lot.
And the IKEA one I really like. Easy to clean, I don't find it takes up that much space- but we do have a lot of room around oor table now so maybe I just don't notice. The tray is really annoying to take off though, I don't know why. But for the price I'm happy with it.

@LCTBQE: That's so weird, I truly can't see how the Tripp Trap could smell of anything - it's just wood (and the baby seat that you put on top is a piece of plastic). There aren't any places on the chair that you can't clean easily... do you know where she was having trouble cleaning?

I wanted a Tripp Trapp, but my husband (oddly?) wanted a Chicco one so we went with that. He really wanted a tray since we had a glass table.

I wish I got the Tripp trap from the beginning.... I think it would have been a good investment for a good chair.
We had one with a built in cushion that was a hand me down and it was impossible to clean and huge.
We got the simple IKEA one and I really like it! Totally worth the $19! The legs come off easily too if you want to travel with it.

We love our Graco blossom 4-in-1 but it is pretty big. But wonderful. Cleans easily, comfy, love the multiple trays, adjustable height, reclines, 5 pt harness, etc.
My mom has the Fisher Price EZ clean at her house and I always wish I had done that instead (we live in an apt and it would have been way more practical. But my mom bought us the blossom and she doesn't do a ton of gifts so I'd feel awful getting rid of it.)

@LCTBQE: I have actually had 2, but neither were used for baby, and neither were smelly! I bought both used, $50, the first one had orange paint chipping off. I resold it. The next one had orange paint perfectly intact and it is awesome for a toddler/preschooler. So, no smell, but I suppose it is possible if used with a messy baby...

We actually have the tripp trapp my parents bought for me in the 80s. My sister and I both used it and they had it in their basement for years. It doesn't fit the new baby attachment, so we also have the ingelsina fast chair that we have used for the baby period. We moved my older daughter to the tripp trapp by 15 months or so. Hoping we can do the same for baby 2.

We got a Graco Slim Spaces, and I hate it. The fabric seat cover shrank in the wash, and I can't get it to collapse fully, which is annoying because the collapsing feature is why we selected it! We have a FP booster seat thing and love it!!!

We have a graco soufflé and it's been a great seat. Easy to clean, the cover is easily machine washed, it's very neutral looking, and it's held up well with a year of use.

We have a Graco slim spaces too, I and I hate it. We also have a FP booster and I like that a lot more. Anything with fabric just gets really gross and impossible to clean. I had wanted the Oxo one, but DH thought it was too expensive. I wish I'd just gone with what I wanted originally though.

We have an Evenflo convertible high chair that I like a lot. It doesn't fold up, but it's lightweight, I like that is doesn't have any upholstery (easy to clean), and it converts to a toddler table and chair when LO gets a little older.
What we have must be an older version of this (different color, and it looks like the removable pads and straps have been reconfigured a little.

We started with the fisher price space saver and I wasn't a fan. It didn't fit great on our chairs and it was hard to clean.
We bought the IKEA antilop and I LOVE it. It's lightweight, easy to clean, doesn't take up too much space.

@Beehive: I don't know, I'll have to ask her again--it seemed from what she said like the wood itself had absorbed the fragrance of rotted baby food, which I also have trouble picturing. if no one else on here is reporting that, I'm not worried about it. mostly interested in this chair because it's 1) not hideous and 2) looks like it takes up less space than the traditional kind, which are probably more comfy. still think I might try the antilop first as it is basically free
@Greentea: bummer about the chipped paint--maybe the first family was really rough with it?

I had my heart set on the Ikea Antilop for DD#2 (I hated the traditional high chair for DD#1 and already sold it - such a pain to clean!). Apparently they discontinued it back in 2014?? I'm so sad about it and I guess I will have to find another option. I may go for one of the ones you strap on a chair, but then I'd have to clean the chair of course...
I'll definitely be checking Craigslist frequently!

@peachykeen: oh wow! IKEA online doesn't have it anymore. I noticed they started selling a $60 chair, but even a couple months ago when we were looking the Antilop was still available. It must have taken two years to sell off the inventory.

Is there a reason to get a full high chair vs one that attaches to a seat? (since those seem both cheaper and easier to store) Seems most of you have the traditional high chairs, just wondering the reason. Thanks!

I have a clip on chair in lieu of a full high chair and it's great, though I have nothing to compare. It's not the Chico one, I'll have to come back and edit when I check the brand name. I like that there's no extra furniture on the kitchen door and mine is easy to clean, I just wipe down the cover and then toss it in the washing machine about once a week. I have it either clipped to the kitchen table or the island. My LO is nearly 2 and just recently started sitting at a regular chair, if she's eating with us, or at her own little table, so I never had the kind that goes on top of the chair seat either.

I was thinking about getting it. I can't really justify the price of the Tripp Trapp and looking at it, I honestly can't see what makes it worth that...I understand kids can use it long-term as a chair later, but you can do that with other high chairs that are like a third of the price. It looks cool and has an attractive design, but personally I don't care much about that for this particular item.ETA: My friend just recommended this one that is similar to the Ikea and also similar price point.
