if you have one - tell me about them. good or bad!
my LO (almost 1!) has the older style fisher price space saver high chair, which has served us well, but doesn't fit under the table (so she can't join us at the table). in addition, she can shove off the table and almost flips over backward.
I like the idea of a hook on seat (because even if I get a "shorter" high chair, she could still push off the table) but they scare me! ha! how secure are they?

We have the Phil and Ted's and like it a lot. We use it for our traveling high chair and keep it in the car, but I have friends who use it exclusively. Down sides - it won't work if your table isn't totally flat underneath, and the tray doesn't really lock in so if you have a mischievous baby they can throw it.

We have one that we use for restaurants/other places. It wouldn't work on our kitchen table because it has a "lip" and it wouldn't be able to slide far enough on (if that makes sense)

We don't have a table, just a kitchen island for eating, so we use a hook on chair exclusively. It feels very stable, I've never been worried about it falling or anything. And I like that she is right at the table with us.
We use the chicco 360 chair, mainly because it fit with the depth of the counter lip, and came with a tray that snaps on. Overall I like it but it hasn't held up as well as I would like, it's annoying to clean (the seat itself goes in the wash but the rest gets food stuck in crevices), and it seems like she is really pushing the weight limit right now, even though the seat says it goes to 35 lbs and she only weighs 28. But we have been using it daily for almost 2 years so we got our money's worth.
So I would recommend a hook on chair, just not necessarily mine. The Phil and teds lobster seat seems really popular. Also look at how it will attach to your table- if it a deep lip or something you may need one brand over another.

so where I would put her (the head of the table) has a large flat area. the sides of the table have a 5" or so flat area (for the chair to hook?).
how much room do you need, ideally?

@sorrycharlie: depends on the chair- the chicco ones need to go further in than 5 inches but can go under and around the part that sticks down (is it called an apron?). You might need to buy and couple and try them out.

You just have to be careful that the hook depth is wide enough for your table lip.

@LuLu Mom: I think Target has that one (or similar?). That's the one I was considering! I had it in my hands and was like "ehhh I don't NEED another seat..." but gosh if she isn't busy, quiet and sneaky. I do need something if I want to save my sanity, lol.

we have the inglesina fast chair. we used it when eating out, and really liked it--there were a couple of tables it didn't work on, in which case we used the restaurant's high chair.
it does fit tables with an "apron" or "lip", but not all of them, depending on where the apron/lip is positioned and how thick it is.

@sorrycharlie: just saw the picture you posted--i think either the phil & ted lobster or the inglesina should fit fine, especially on the side with more flat space.

The Phil & Ted's Lobster chair is THE BEST. It's great to have at home, and travel with, it collapses and is easy to clean.

We have the Inglesina and I really like it! It's pretty secure, but like other hook on chairs, it doesn't fit on tables with large lips.

@Alivoo01: @edelweiss: okay so - weird q. the phil and ted's has a tray, do you guys know if an ezpz mat would fit (maybe sideways?!) between the grips? the ezpz mini mats are still OOS everywhere 
the other thing I was curious about was if the chair could actually hook/clamp right over the sides of the ezpz mat on the table? if that makes any sense..

We have a chico which is fine. My biggest complaint is it is difficult to take the fabric off to wash. My MIL has an inglesia (sp?) and it's awesome. BUT if you have a lip under your table it might not work.

@sorrycharlie: I don't think it would fit. The lobster tray is smaller than our high chair tray, and our ezpz doesn't fit on our high chair. It probably would fit sideways. I'm excited for the mini too!

@sorrycharlie: not a weird question! we used the tiny infant tiny diner placemat with the inglesina, which is wider than the space between the two arms of the inglesina, but we would just clamp the arms down on top of the edges of the placement.
with the ezpz, i'm not sure what the width is of the raised portion so unfortunately i am no help there.

We have the inglesia fast chair and love it. Use it full time and travel with it. Easy to throw in the wash.

I just ordered the inglesina in black from amazon warehouse should be here thursday, hopefully! I wanted one of the fun colors but thought black might hide stains better
