My LO will not drink water no mater what I do! Not from a sippy cup, not from a bottle, not before during or after her meal. Last night I broke down and mixed a little organic apple juice in there and she still won't drink it!! The sippy cup totally baffles her, and if I put it in a bottle she takes one or two sips and then looks at me like "mama, that's not milk. What are you trying pull here?!?" HELP!!! I wasn't too stressed about it but it is HOT here now and I'm worried about dehydration. Plus, she seemed like she was straining to poo yesterday (even though the poo was soft) and I don't want her to get constipated.

LO will always drink anything from a open cup and especially from an adult glass!

Have you tried a straw?
I used to suck some water through a straw and let me daughter drink through the other end.

Like @regberadaisy said - she was interested in drinking from our cups, so we started putting straws in them (started w/ coffee stir sticks and then moved to regular straws). She always would try to drink the bath water from the stacking cups, too, but the sippy cups would confuse her.

@regberadaisy: I was going to say the same thing.
E was first interested in water because he saw us drinking it from our glass and that's how he had his first sips of water. After that we'd use straws when we were out somewhere and suck some into the straw and then put it in his mouth and he loved it! I think it was because of that that he caught onto the straw sippy so quickly. He has no idea what to do with a regular sippy but he loves drinking out of his straw!

Straw cup or open cup?

I gave my LO a Zoli straw cup at 6 months. It took her a few days to get the hang of it.

I read try a shot glass to get them used to drinking from an open cup. Also, do it yourself so she can mimick the behavior. I also would let the straw fill with water and hold one side. Then put the other side in the babies mouth and slowly let go of my finger to let it flow in their mouth. I did it in the bathtub and they thought it was a game.

Straws never worked for us, in any form. My son just started drinking it after I kept offering, especially in the summer. I used a spouted sippy cup, but eventually got tired of washing those and went to an open cup at around 12 months.

I also second using a shot glass.
LO only likes the Zoli for straw cups...she hates the playtex one and refused to drink all day (we had left her cup at daycare and didn't have a spare one at home). The only way i could get her to drink water was to give her water from a cup.
I don't think you have to be worried about the straining. He's still young, right? As long as it's soft and no blood, i wouldn't be concerned.

Bottle water, she sees us drink it and she loves it. We just get the squirt top bottles, and squeeze a little in her mouth. She wil drink from a bottle too.

i'm trying to get LO to drink more water, too
it's been a slow process!i dont know if this is good advice or not, but depending on how old she is and how many nutrients she gets in her solids, if you are really worried, maybe you could water down her milk a bit just to get some more liquids in.

I also started by letting him take a few sips from my open cup. He loved it. So I got the zoli straw cup because he couldn't figure out the sippy. Sometimes though he chugs water from his cup and I realize he is just spitting it out while drinking it haha

LO was like that till about 13 or 14 months, and I think daycare did it- once we stopped sending in milk/formula for him and he was getting all his liquids there, they only gave milk once or twice a day, and otherwise it was water with snacks, and unlimited access to the water fountain. Between not having other options, and seeing the other kids do it, he got used to it. We'd also sometimes water down his milk, and he never minded, so if I didn't want him to fill up on milk but wanted him to drink, I'd do something like 1/3 milk and 2/3 water.

we gave it to him in a sippy cup around 5.5 months when we started solids. he'd only take a random sip here and there, but now at 7 months he's started using a straw cup and will drink a lot more.
we did also offer water to him straight from a regular cup and he drank that after eating dinner which turned him onto water in general (washing the food down).

A straw cup, even cooler if its an adult cup with a straw. She hates sippy cups.

Drinking anything in front of DS is a sure fire way to get him to drink it (if well let him).

M (8.5 months) played with her zoli cup like a toy for a month or so before she ever drank a noticeable amount. Her poop was always pretty soft so I figured she was getting enough liquid overall. Now she drinks out of the zoli, especially when she sees me drinking out of my "straw cup". As far as the straining, she's been making lots of noises and faces when she poops now, but it's still quite soft. I think she still figuring out how to poop now that she's eating some solids.

Yep, open cup, straw, adult-type water bottle. Anything we did he wanted to do and he thought he was SUCH a big boy when he would drink like us. DS never figured out the sippy (we only tried 1 style) and went from straw cups to open cups fairly easily.
