I was going to say, "they don't," as LO was often sick, but I guess that's not true. They do require shower-cap style booties on shoes in the infant room. They also claim to sterilize toys and the room is professionally cleaned on a daily basis. Oh, and they wear gloves for each diaper change.

Kids get sick regardless but when we had outbreaks they have done extra cleaning.

ALWAYS booties on the feet in the infant room
Gloves for Diaper changes
All toys were cleaned nightly - once a toy was in a kids mouth it went into the wash bin for the night

For the older rooms when sickness occurs

They ask parents to wash the nap mats nightly
Hired cleaners to come in and sanitize the classrooms

A few weeks ago lice was found - yikes - they were checking every single child - naps mat had to be cleaned every night, NO toys were allowed in from outside, every other day the carpets were steamed clean.

c.diff is so scary!! My grandmother had it several times before she passed away; what a nasty, nasty disease and can be so hard for people to get over/rid of.

At our daycare center, in the infant rooms you must wear those blue disposable bootie shoe-cover things over shoes, or take your shoes off and just wear socks (no bare feet allowed).
In all rooms, all toys and the rooms are bleached/sanitized/washed every night.

All the cups/plates/etc. are washed in a dishwasher after every meal and sanitized that way.

I’m not really sure what else they do, but there are not really a lot of crazy illnesses at our daycare ever, just run of the mill stuff. (They put up a sign for everyone to see when an illness is confirmed – just says like “HFM has been confirmed in preschool” etc.)

Oh no! Hope your LO is okay. I'd ask to encourage a no-shoe policy, too.

Our infant rooms require shoe cover booties for everyone. I see them cleaning pretty often and they are always running the laundry for bibs, sheets, etc. They do a deep clean every so often, I forget. Teachers use gloves for diaper changes (parents don't have to) and we have to sanitize with a spray/wipe down after each diaper change, even though they are already done on those dr. exam room paper rolls.

Overall they send home kids pretty quickly.. Of course with babies there is lots of drool and the inevitable runny nose. But, there's a handbook on illnesses detailing at what point kids get sent home, when they can return, which illnesses require dr's note, that we have to agree to upon enrollment and they stick with it.
