I don't post a lot but I was just going to post something similar and my LO is only 7.5 months old. My original goal was 6 months but I really have no desire to stop. It's not that common around here to still be breastfeeding and sometimes I feel judged for my feeding choices. Sometimes I just wish people would mind their own business and accept everyone's feeding choices.

No advice but when in doubt I just keep telling myself to focus on what works for my family and me

Not normal around these parts either but I guess I wore everyone else out with my insane extended breastfeeding (sarcasm) so no one in my life dares make any comments! I just act like it's the most normal and natural thing in the world (which it is) and people who make comments are ignoramuses. Don't let them intimidate you! Tell them it's working great for you guys and BTW the WHO recommends bfing until at least 2!

We are at almost 15 months and I see no end in near sight ... Though we are hoping to start trying in a couple months so I'm thinking around then. I'm sorry your mom group isn't supportive! I feel like extended bfing is becoming very normal where I am ... It's almost intimidating! Don't let anyone make you question yourself though! Nursing is a relationship between you and your lo, no one else

it's more common where i am (crazy how much of a difference an hour drive makes!) but i haven't had too many people ask me post 1 year. i guess it depends on how people are asking me? but at this point, i want to keep going until she wants to!

I don't have good comebacks but I feel for you. Portland Oregon is so wonderful about extending Breastfeeding in general but sometimes naive friends and family can be pretty obnoxious about it. I just equate it with people who get uncomfortable when two men who are gay kiss in front of them. It's not that they are necessarily judging they just don't understand it. They aren't used to it. I would just be patient with them and explain that it's very common in many communities.

Most people I've talked to haven't batted an eye when I said I was still nursing, and I haven't received any negative feedback.

I am a bit surprised we're still nursing, and don't know how long I plan to go for... I didn't think it'd be this hard for me to stop, but he's my baby and I cherish my alone times nursing him!

I'd say 'until we can be on the cover of Time magazine' with a totally straight face. I'd also say that she probably wouldn't still nurse to sleep in high school. Probably. That really shut people up.

I get this question all the time, and LO is only 4 months old! I just tell them I'll breastfeed until he is ready to stop. It's not very common among DH's family. While I get asked often, I think everyone approves and supports me.

I actually only know of one person IRL who is planning to wean at 1, and everyone is always surprised when she says it. Here people follow the WHO plan of 2 years. I'm surprised anyone knows the difference though between an 11 month old and 1 year old, that they would actually say something. Is it strangers or people you know?

I'm not great at witty comebacks, so I've perfected my steely cold stare, accompanied by a long, uncomfortable pause. It works well for a number of entirely inappropriate questions. Some questions just don't deserve an answer because it's none of the interrogator's business, you know?
