Xander currently eats six times a day and three of those are 5 oz bottles at daycare. If he has bottles all day, he has six 5 oz bottles, so 30 oz total. Xander's only in the 17th percentile for weight and 80th percentile for height, so Hubs thinks he's probably not eating enough, and that we should send 6 oz bottles to daycare. I think 30 oz is probably plenty, but I'm curious what everyone else thinks.

I think probably between 25 and 27? 30oz is plenty! If your LO is just naturally a slender guy, then giving him more oz to unnaturally try to plump him up isn't going to work (believe me, I tried when we were worried about LO's weight!

I stopped pumping at 2ish months, but at 2 months old my DS was taking 5-6 ounce bottles every 3 hours (he was STTN 8-10 hours at 2 months old). He went on bottle strike so he's been EBF since.
At 6 months old he's 21+ lbs and chunky.
Does X seem hungry? Is he sleeping well at night?

@chopsuey119: He sleeps just fine. Usually about 7 hours straight, sometimes longer. I don't actually think he's hungry for more, but he consistently finishes off all 15oz at daycare today (or they at least claim he does). I think it's more likely they are just feeding him too fast and not that he actually needs more, but Hubs thinks we should send more just in case.

@chopsuey119: I'm worried because Hubs wants to just try giving him 6oz and I'm afraid he'll gobble it down and then Hubs will want to send 6 oz bottles to daycare and I can only pump just enough to cover the 5 oz bottles.

@Adira: do you plan on starting solids at 6 months? since he's sleeping well I would hold off on sending an extra ounce. 30 ounces seems to be what other babies his age are getting.
how much does he eat when he's home? maybe try a 6 ounce bottle at home over the weekend? and if he does gobble it down, you could try supplements to help with milk supply? or you could mix an ounce of formula with your BM!

@chopsuey119: Yes, we plan to start solids at six months. I don't really know how much he eats at home because we are nursing, but he eats six times total, regardless of if half is from bottles or it's all from the boob. I'm actually trying to avoid having to supplement with formula, which I think is why I want confirmation that what we are giving is probably enough, haha.

30ish oz. DD is similar.. 15% for weight, 75% for height. Her ped isn't concerned, so I try not to be either..

I was also thinking that if Xander REALLY wasn't getting enough to drink at daycare, wouldn't he be trying to make up for that by nursing more at home? It seems like since he can go such a long stretch at night without eating, he MUST be getting enough during the day, right???

at that age, LO was having three 6-oz bottles at daycare and then nursing in the morning and evenings. so i would say about 30 oz total, although probably a bit more because he nurses a lot in the mornings.
shortly after the 5-month mark, daycare asked me to up his bottles to 7 oz each because he was crying when he was done with the 6 oz bottles! we also started him on solids around the same time. i think his appetite really ratcheted up because he started scootching around and was awake for most of the day (he doesn't nap that well at daycare), so he was burning a lot of calories.

@edelweiss: I wonder if that might be Xander's problem too - he doesn't usually nap well at daycare, and he's probably a lot more active there than he usually is at home. So far daycare hasn't asked me to provide anymore in his bottles, but they did tell me yesterday he seemed to be getting hungry earlier (like after 2.5 hours instead of 3). I'm thinking that might have just been because he was dehydrated though because it's been sooooooo hot here.

@Adira: our ped said as long as she is following her growth curve she's fine. I'm still a little worried since she went from:
60% @ 2 months,
to 50% @ 4 months,
to 25% @ 6 months,
to 15% @ 9 months..
But her ped said the gradual decline is normal.. That they only worry when baby stops growing, or drops off the curve dramatically.. I still kind of wish LO wasn't such a skinny minnie.

so I think Xander's dropping even faster than your LO! But my pediatrician didn't seem concerned either, so it must be okay, right?

since 12 weeks or so, DS has been taking 25-30 oz over 5/6 feeds. He now takes in 2-3 solids meals + a snack, which has decreased his intake to 25 oz.
DS is 8 months on Sunday and weighs around 20 lbs!

@Adira: DD looks healthy.. She is lean, but she def has little squishy rolls, which I LOVE! The ped says she looks well nourished, so I try to not concentrate on the %. Don't worry until the doctor starts to worry.. They're seen so frequently at this stage that you can easily remedy the situation if need be.

@LaineysMom: Yeah, Xander's the same. He looks healthy and is definitely lean, but he still has rolls! I honestly wasn't worried, so I'm not sure why my husband thinks he needs more! I guess the % bothers him, but I don't know why.

Is it really weird that I have absolutely no idea how much he gets? He doesn't take bottles so I guess how would I know...but I don't even really keep track of how many times he nurses in the day. It definitely varies though. All I know is I have a tank. He was 19lbs 6oz and 27 inches at 5 months. He's gotta slow down at some point right? Anyone else in my boat?

@Adira: He's huge! It's kind of strange because neither DH or I are big people. DH is 6' so around average for a male?! I never expected to have a big kid (for whatever reason!) but he's pretty much always been in the 96-98th percentile for height and 80's for weight. I do get a bit envious of people with smaller LO's as it's way easier to lug them around 
Just goes to show every babe is different, and as long as they're happy & healthy no need to worry!

@lolabee: Oh, you make a good point about lugging around the baby!!! I always feel like Xander in his car seat is soooooo heavy, but it could definitely be worse!! Guess I should be thankful he happens to be on the lean side, haha.

@Adira: Definitely pros and cons to both! I figure if my guy wasn't so big I wouldn't have developed tendonitis. If I remember correctly, Xander sleeps quite well so I would guess that he's not hungry

@lolabee: Yes, he usually sleeps at least 7 hours at night, so my guess is he's not hungry either! Is it possible for a baby to not be getting enough food but NOT demand more?
