It's been a long time since we worried about poop!
Charlotte is 4 days old and is a poop champion. She pooped three times the day she was born, four the following day, and so far today we are on poop #5. Most of them are complete blow-outs.
Is this normal for an EBF baby? It just seems like a loooot of poop for such a tiny person!

Lo pooped like a zillion times a day. We seriously went through like 12 diapers a day at least and most of them were poopy i think. Totally normal.

The first few weeks LO pooped in almost every diaper I think... and there were a lot. I want to say some days were like, 8+. It was insane.

I think that's a good thing and means she's getting a lot to eat! Mine were going several days without pooping from a very young age, which the ped wasn't happy with that young. Turns out they weren't gaining weight and weren't getting enough to eat. So I vote that lots of poop is a good sign!

It's a good sign! I think for EBF baby, they should get at least 3 poopy diapers a day. It means she's getting enough to eat! My DD is 3 weeks and she ranges from 3-6 poops a day.

My DS was pooping this way until about 3 months old, then it dropped to 2 times a day, and now once a day at five months. He is EBF as well. Its still so runny, and there is so much. Where does all that poop hide in such tiny people?!?

For the first week they're supposed to have as many dirty diapers as they are days old. So three days old = three dirty diapers.
I hear you on the poop thing! LO#1 was a poop every 3 days baby from the start (which prompted it's own freak out because why is my baby not pooping?!?).
LO#2 is SO not. It's quite the adjustment!

The dirty/wet diaper rule (#=days) is a minimum not the "right" number. We always well-exceeded it (so. much. poop.) and doctor wasn't concerned.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: if it's still coming off the men coining then green night ne ok. But it shouldn't stay green. Usually green is the sign of an imbalance in the breastmilk.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: I woundnt worry about the poop color for a few more days. Sometimes it takes until day 6 or 7 to clear out all the meconium (or milk to come in). Both my kids pooped a lot before it turned yellow/seedy.

@Mrsjets: it isn't sticky like merconim. It looks like transitional stool based on the photos I've googled.
I haven't been obsessed with poop like this in close to three years lol I forgot how much poop can tell you about a diet and health!

My baby is only 6 days old and EBF, but almost every one of the 10-12 diapers she goes through a day have poop in them. Although, mostly "small" poos, nothing close to being a blowout.

Jack is 17 days old and literally poops about 10 times a day he is bf and supplementing. I thought it was abnormal too and asked the ped and she said it was totally normal. His are almost always blowouts with ridiculous old man loud farts.

Yep. Tons. And she was so loud when she pooped sometimes we would jump out of our skin! Lol!

@sorrycharlie: LOL we saw her poop face today and cracked up.
@chibee: her second poop in the hospital was a mega blow out. We couldn't believe it. She needed washed and a complete change, even the sheets in her bassinet.

@Mrs. Jump Rope: lol my jack is a fan of the blow outs but usually contained in his diaper thank god! sometimes it actually startles me, and i pick him up immediately expecting to see just a poop massacre all over him and me!

Totally normal!
We used Huggies Little Snugglers as a newborn because they have a band across the top of the back of the diaper that made a life-changing difference in the number of blowouts. Like from 1-2/day to like once in a blue moon.

I'm pretty sure I've changed at least 10 dirty diapers since midnight!!!! This is my 7 month old! Not always like this but sometimes she just has tons of a dirty diapers.

@chibee: I don't know but he seems to save the worst ones until someone is holding him (he prefers if it's a guest so it's REALLY embarrassing. Plus he makes a big production about working them out.
